This month’s digest from the European placemaking network.

Their tool of the month is a manual on how to make activity trails for exploring underutilised spaces. This has definitely had success here in Papaioea with our Passport to Play Palmy, created by local play advocates Palmy Dirty 30.

TOOL OF THE MONTH

Encouraging exploration and play in underused public spaces: An activity trail

The manual, on how to create an activity trail, aims to create an outdoor environment that people can be active and playful in, and linked to a place to engage and explore. Interestingly, it was developed under the Covid-19 pandemic. Within it,  you can learn all the steps needed to realise your personalised activity trail in your neighbourhood.

It also includes some background on why
NabolagshagerOslo Living Lab, and Kim Weger decided on developing the tool in Oslo.

Developed by the Kim Weger and Clara J. Reich

RESOURCES

Cities of Making

Cities of Making aims to explore the role of urban based manufacturing in European cities in the 21st century. Using a combination of strategic and action research, the CoM's ambition is to identify what works in supporting a resilient and innovative industrial base, and to test those solutions in a real world setting.
The goal of the project is to develop ideas, practices and policies focusing on public authorities (and many other relevant stakeholders) that may drive a new age of urban manufacturing embedded in place, people and locally available resources.

The City at Eye Level Asia BOOK LAUNCH
Tuesday, 27th of October, 14:00-15:30 (UTC+01)

Think City, Urban Discovery and STIPO are proud to launch The City at Eye Level Asia, the latest book packed with 43 inspiring case studies showcasing good public spaces as the backbone of the sustainable city from across the region.
Congratulations to our Placemaking Europe's members who, together with Asian partners, made the book possible:
Hans KarssenbergSiënna Veelders | Charlot Schans
There is a lot to learn from the stories in The City at Eye Level Asia book and from members of the Placemakers Asia network. Many public spaces in Asian cities are often multi-layered and multi-functional depending on the time of the day. There are no cookie-cutter solutions as each city in the world is unique in its strengths and challenges, so we hope to discover many new layers of placemaking from our colleague network in the future.
