What is happening in October?
Day by day, Covid numbers dropping, creeping closer and closer to the end of lockdown. Stay strong fellow Victorians! It has been tough for us all, but the light at the end of the tunnel is approaching.
What does activation look like in a post-Covid world?
Events and activation re not dead. But they *have* changed. They are localised and granular, they are outside and integrate physical distancing, they match face to face with online. It has been great to start planning some Covid Safe Summer place activations
for the end of the year with our collaborators.
An amazing new resource to support the safe public return of public space is the
Covid Safe Summer guidelines released by the NSW Government. We have a few free lunch and learn webinar sessions for Councils on ‘placemaking and activation in a post Covid world’ available. Get in touch on
he...@djam.com.au if you would like to take advantage of this offer and tool your organisation up for Covid safe summer activation.
Australian placemaking networks
Who caught the recent ‘Placemaking in Australia’ update video that we made for global placemaking network PlacemakingX? You can view it here via
facebook or
LinkedIn.
Our monthly Australian placemaking network video conference catchup is coming up next week, 16 Oct @11am. We invite you to join us. Kylie Legge, CEO of Place Score, will be guest speaker, helping us understand how place data can add value to our work. Register
here. If you would like to be added to the recurring monthly network meeting email your request to
he...@djam.com.au. All welcome!

Ode to industrial placemaking
Industrial precincts are such undervalued assets. Often underutilised, they present extremely valuable ‘employment land’ that can support local enterprise growth and job opportunities. They can support ephemeral activation at a grand scale, think large scale
food truck gatherings can car boot sales, turning them into a community asset.
We have been working with a great team at Brighton Council over the past months developing a new Placemaking and Brand Strategy for the Brighton Industrial Estate. The fresh new place vision is supported by a strategic action plan that integrates new brand
values, local governance structure, ephemeral activation, physical improvements and workforce planning for industry jobs growth. Brand concepts currently under development. Such a fun project to be part of. Industrial Estates are not boring! Can’t wait to
share more.

Ridiculous Peoples Debate
If community engagement is your jam then we recommend you check out the
Turn It Up digital conference being held by our pals at Capire in a few weeks time. We are partnering with engagement leaders Dan Popping and Max Hardy to deliver the Ridiculous Peoples Debate.
This is not your usual debate! The audience will hands on shape this participatory experience and debate the outrageous topic:
face to face community engagement is dead. Wham! Gloves come off on 20 October, 3.30-5.00pm. It will be the best part of the conference for sure! Register for this free event
here.
