With the hackspace packing down in the new year, it's going to be difficult to work on any larger projects that take longer than a day - especially in the case of woodworking where you often need to wait for glues to cure, sealants to dry etc. Does anyone have any suggestions for where we could work while the space is adrift?

Most of the open workshops I've found are some combination of A) meant for full-time artists/makers (expensive) B) not open on weekends/evenings C) no storagae or D) "Men's Sheds" and therefore not really suitable. The best option I've found is joining South London Makerspace, which is a bit of a trek!

Perhaps we could rent a garage for a few months? (Only half joking..)

I think the picture you are painting here is a little too pessimistic.

I envisage that woodworking will be one of the last facilities to be lost in the current venue, and one of the first up and running in the new. It will be a little more awkward if we have to remove the dirty workshops, and I shall be endeavouring to establish that asap…

Regardless, it will be much smoother if we can get members to donate a little time to help with the process rather than arrange to be elsewhere for the duration. This is how the Hackspace gets to be the cheap and suitable venue J

Hey Paddy,

Sorry, I didn't mean it in a "the end is nigh" kind of way. I was mostly thinking of the end of storage facilities on 1st Jan: if there's nowhere to park material, leave glue-ups etc., I can picture it being a pain to work on something the size of e.g. a table. Obviously that doesn't rule out smaller stuff that can be taken home each day, though. Or am I missing something?

Hi Sam,

Sorry I think it’s me that missed something actually…

Namely the wording of the notices, it’s rather draconian, and I hadn’t realised how much so.

Being unable to leave glue to dry or similar would indeed IMO have the effect of driving members elsewhere and I’m going to bring up the idea that we be a bit more flexible.

Back soon J
