Hi folks,

I'm wondering what the current situation is with the playwood group. I find it quite hard to get to the new hackspace, but I'd love to meet up with some fellow woodworkers and work on some projects. I have a bench at home, but also a young child which makes it really hard to work on projects in the evening.

I'm wondering if there's interest in setting up a club? Perhaps we could find a workshop that would let us borrow benches one evening a week, or maybe make some knockdown benches and find a community centre or similar with some storage that would be happy to have us and let us leave some equipment there?

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Chris

Hey Chris, I am in a very similar position, we have a 10 month old which means the 2 hour round trip to the new space would pretty much eat up my available spare time.

I still do a bit of woodworking in a family members garage but do miss the communal aspect of the hackspace. There's only so many projects my partner can feign interest in!

A meetup closer to home in the east for a few hours a week would be perfect. I like the idea of knockdown benches in a community centre, church halls are often available also.

Not sure of the traffic on this list lately but possibly could look on other forums for interest too if needed.

Hi Matt,

Lovely to hear from you!

A church hall is a great idea too. Another place I thought of is the School of Stuff in Dalston[1] where I took a class several years ago. I wonder if they could be convinced to rent us a couple of benches during the evening when one of their courses is running.

I'm based in Kentish Town / Gospel Oak so Dalston isn't too bad for me. Where are you based?

I thought this knock down Nicholson bench[2] might be a good candidate for storing away, and shouldn't be too hard for us to build.

Anyone else out there who might be interested?

Cheers,

Chris

Hey Chris, am in Ilford myself but can get over to Hackney easily enough. Not see the school of stuff before, looks great!

Also have you heard of Oxford House? I remember seeing this some time ago but it's only open in the day time. I wonder if it's worth inquiring about an evening session?
