I am currently running a home office computer used by 3 or 4 ppl so windoze
will have to still be operational and 100 % stable (or as near to that as
it ever gets) so I was considering using partition magic or similar to
block off about 400 MB and set up a unix os my questions are
which is the best unix style os ?? lunix etc any1 tried miniunix or Uwin
(sounds like that would defeat the point tho)
Am I likely to see significant speed increases in net usage ?? (I believed
the biggest bottleneck would be the modem connection speed but a rabid unix
advocate was saying that as most net servers are unix based and the s/w is
more efficient I would see increases !!)
I have heard that there is a very cheap 6 cd pack for about $25 that
contains lunix plus 90% of the tools / apps I may want, any1 know who
provides this as it would save on online time and frustration.
Will my many small DOS apps be compatible in a unix enviroment ?? as part
of the same question when you partition a hard disk will the os be blind to
the separate (other) partition ?
What are the favored / best email, newsreader and browser combinations for
unix ???
any other hints / tips and related info also gladly welcomed I would
appreciate it if responses could come by email, Thanks in advance

I would go with FreeBSD, without a question.
