Hi,
All animals and plants are multicellular organisms, meaning that they
are made of a large number of cells that are functionally
differentiated. In an animal or a plant, cells are held together as
an individual organism by extracellular matrix. The extracellular
matrix is also a media through which cells communicate. Cell wall is a
type of extracellular matrix in which plant cells are embedded. Animal
cells produce their own extracellular matrix made of collagen (long
protein). Collagen is the most abundant protein in our body and it
generally constitutes a matrix more flexible than plant cell wall.
However, collagen is one of the main components of our bones,
indicating that collagen-based extracelluar matrix can be harder than
plants.
