On this discussion, list anything you have accomplished.

I created the different discussion boards, and I also uploaded the
HTML file with javascript using Yahoo UI. I used Yahoo UI (http://
developer.yahoo.com/yui/) before and it has good samples that you can
just copy and paste from the source to make anything from buttons to
charts, calendars, etc.

For those of you who are new, you should be able to use WebDrive with
target site www.cs2.org.vt.edu to modify the files under PKUTracker.
WebDrive site: http://computing.vt.edu/internet_and_web/web_publishing/web_hosting/usingdav.html.
For those of you who want hours recorded for this project, you would
have to tell me what you did for each hour or so, and the final
result. If you have any questions, ideas, or want to talk my AIM is
HaganatorX. So far we are planning on starting with a simple interface
to look up data (such as phenylalanine) for a specific food by
querying the database. Then we can add in more complex stuff later –
if anyone knows or can think of a free or easy interface for a way to
track the amounts after lookup (like a calendar?), that could be
helpful

For those of you who want service hours for Professionalism recorded
for this project, I will like you to limit recorded hours to work that
you actually do on the project, excluding possible time taken to learn
the technologies. If you want me to record service hours, please keep
a list of hours, what you did, and associated files that you made, and
email them to me.

To get started, you can just download the file "PKUTracker.html" from
the "Files" section, open as a text file, modify it, and then open/
double click it to preview it in a browser.

If you want to use subversion (SVN) to manage code (though you do not
have to as long as you keep your own backups), I set up a repository.

You can access the code projects with this subversion URL using
TortoiseSVN: https://cvs.cs.vt.edu/vtgamingproject/PKUTracker
You need a CS SLO/lab account, which you can create at
https://admin.cs.vt.edu/create.pl
First install TortoiseSVN: http://tortoisesvn.net/downloads
Here is one tutorial on subversion/SVN:
http://www.mind.ilstu.edu/research/robots/iris4/developers/svntutorial/
You can create separate subfolders for each project.

Let me know if you have any problems.

First somewhat workable demo is up at: http://www.cs2.org.vt.edu/PKUTracker/PKUTracker.html
It lets you search for a food from a hard-coded list (myData) and lets
you specify amount then add it to your daily intake. Right now the
calendar does nothing - but we could make it so it loads a specific
day or week. Deleting foods needs to be fixed to get the actual food
content. So next we could a database set up to save user info+the
list of foods, and we need to get a much bigger list of foods. Any
other suggestions/ideas? Let me know what you think.

I started a sourceforge.net project for PKU Tracker, so if you want to
code, please create a sourceforge.net account and request to join the
project PKU Tracker. You need to do this to access the code at the
subversion URL: https://pkutracker.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/pkutracker

Hi Julie, (message from previous email)

I was having a hard time finding an Image to Text program that worked,
but I finally found a decently sized electronic food list from the
USDA. I also emailed some websites so maybe we can get more
electronic lists. Let me know if you get your hands on any data.
This has been added to the site: http://www.cs2.org.vt.edu/PKUTracker/PKUTracker.html

Next we will try to get some way to save data, such as user accounts.
I also decided to keep the project open source, and let me know if you
have any more input or ideas – thanks.

Very cool!! I like it very much and I'm glad you were able to find the food list...I didn't even think about checking with the USDA. I did find that there were some updates to the food list on pkunews.org, so you can try there too. But I like the website a lot! Keep up the good work guys!

I added a save/load to Microsoft Excel feature in PKU Tracker. This
makes it much more useful since now you can look up all the foods and
import/export to Excel to keep the records. Now it seems like a
fairly useful tool. The formatting could still probably use some
work, we can keep trying to get more data, and we could also take a
look into suppport on mobile devices. Progress on the project is
looking pretty good. Let me know if anyone has any other ideas/
input.

I added more food data, but I found out that save/load to Excel does
not work in IE7. I cannot figure out how to print a tab or carriage
return in the text boxes (textarea) even though it works in firefox.
Anyone know how to print a carriage return/tab in firefox?

I mean print a return/tab in Internet Explorer? I tried \n and \t,
<br>, and some other things.

Ok, for now I just made it use a different token in IE, so it works
now. The autocomplete also seems to go slow sometimes so I put
another input box too. I got data from USDA and a PKU news list - can
you check to see if the numbers seem accurate by comparing to your
book? Is there anything else we could add that would be useful?
