Pakistan being primarily an agricultural country has been striving to
maintain self-sufficiency in food grains production. However the
challenges of rapidly growing population, limited land and water
resources , low overall productivity of food grains need to be met
effectively in order to make the country self reliant. Multi-pronged
arrangements are required to be put into action in order to achieve
the objective. The agricultural sector lacks effective programs aiming
at increased overall crop productivity. About 70% population is
engaged in agriculture, majority of which comprises of small land
holders lacking financial capability to invest.

In order to assess the present position of food
grain production and future prospects a one day national conference is
being organized by the Agricultural Foundation of Pakistan on 25th
June, 2009, at Auditorium of National Agricultural Research Centre
(NARC), Islamabad.
