I have a repo, in sync with the final changeset of onnv-clone.
I have done a full build.
I have a machine auto-installed from the Austin lab to build 174
(because it is older than 175). I would like to get my bits on it.
I set the publisher immediately:

You're trying to install your packages at version 175
on a OS running build 174. Why do you think this would work?
Did you try pkg update?

Because it used to work in recent memory?

I got two unnamed packages the first time, and now:
# pkg update -nv

The more you tell pkg, the better the errors you'll get.
Since you're connected to the release repo, pkg update *@latest
should do something useful.

So what would be the syntax for asking pkg to install my own
bits, that show up marked with "0.5.11-0.175.0.0.0.2.18011"?

I'll give that a try; I've just installed S11 FCS on the box.
More generally, are there any best practices? I am trying
to do something pretty vanilla - have a project gate that
I and others can install from.
Thanks,

In general, updating to newer bits just works. The packaging
system will following the constraints encoded in the packages;
one of those constraints is that packages that comprise a single
consolidation cannot be from mixed builds.

pkg update osnet-inc...@0.5.11-0.175.0.0.0.2.18011
will update the your OS to the specified version.
The various consolidations have incorporation packages that
specify the various version of packages that were built &
tested together; the "entire" package by default locks all
the consolidation incorporations together so that one is
running components that are all from a particular build.
Removing entire allows one to pick which version of the
consolidations are used together; note that one is still
subject to any additional dependencies specified in the
individual packages, so attempting to mix bits too far
out of sync will result in error messages.

OK, that bounces due to 'entire', which makes sense.

This got the attached. pkg:/system/library/boot-management looks
like the key log.
Rob T
You'll need to add an install-nightly publisher, since that's where the boot-management package is (for now). Then you should be able to do your update. Note that this is because the machine you did your build on was running update 1 build 3. If you had built on an FCS system, your existing boot-management package would have satisfied that requirement.

Well, either an install-nightly publisher, or a publisher that has the update 1 build 3 version of the boot-management package, that is.

Hi Seth,
Thanks, that makes sense - where would such a publisher live?

Hi - does anyone on this alias have info on an install-nightly
publisher? Seth pointed me to Mary Ding, who's probably on
vacation.
Thanks,

Ah - "pkg set-publisher -g http://indiana-build:10000 install-nightly"
looks good.
Thanks,

This is trying to tell you that the version of the package you are
trying to install is not allowed by the package constrains declared in
the osnet-incorporation package.
Read and follow the instructions found in usr/src/pkg/README.pkg under
"Testing Packages" to test your packages.
> You'll need to add an install-nightly publisher, since that's where the
boot-management package is (for now). Then you should be able to do your
update. Note that this is because the machine you did your build on was
running update 1 build 3. If you had built on an FCS system, your existing
boot-management package would have satisfied that requirement.
Hi Seth,
This is not correct - I am building on an S11 FCS machine.
BUT, we *did* find that something somehow had updated exactly
one package to the Update 1 version:
aus-build-x86[30]% pkg list system/library/boot-management
NAME (PUBLISHER) VERSION IFO
system/library/boot-management 0.5.11-0.175.1.0.0.3.1504 i--
We were able to downgrade that package to version
0.5.11-0.175.0.0.0.2.1482. I then did a full build and
was finally able to do the upgrade I wanted to do.
Thanks to all for the help with this!

Yea -- sorry about that. That's because that packages is not incorporated
(I did that in preparation for its move to a different consolidation), so it
was allowed to be upgraded to the latest version present in the repo.

Though I guess I just don't understand how that version of boot-management
ended up on your system. If you started with an S11 FCS system and then
removed entire and tried to update (onu) to your changes (in
on-nightly/on-extra repos), I don't see where the boot-management package from
s11u1 build 3 could have come from. You ONLY used the release repo to do
your updates?

I don't think we know, either. The build machine was upgraded
from older builds, and we have also updated the build tools.
I think the best guess is that we had something busted at one
point with the Austin auto-install server and package repo,
and got some of that stuck to us. That AI server is managed
for the site.

If you just want to update the onbld tools, you can just use the onbld repo from ipkg.us.oracle.com.
I did this on our slim_source build machine and basically everything stay at S11 FCS, except the onbld tools and I use the onbld repo from ipkg. It will be listed at the ipkg repo inventory.
