By speaking with PKD PLD researchers and renal research dietitians I have come to learn there are 10 essential amino acids and several essential fatty acids, that we must eat daily. For calcium intake it is the ratio of magnesium to calcium that creates absorbable calcium plus vitam D. For iron absorption vitamin C opens the channel. There is an intertwining of many different processes within the body that can create health.
I try to follow these recommendations and I also avoid the top 10 food allergies, soy being number one followed by dairy. See More Diet on the PLD Diet page.
Almonds, coconut, and chestnuts are all alkaline producing within the body and do not (in my opinion, unless you are allergic) contribute to nausea. Nausea seems to come from direct pressure from an expanding cystic liver on the internal organs or from a cystic kidney's expansion or from low kidney functioning or liver functioning. One side effect for some from pregnancy can be morning sickness. By no stretch of the imagination do I think any of us are pregnant. It just seems to me that there might be a similar causes for us with severe PLD experiencing nausea.
PLD livers slow down the metabolism of hormone waste products so our bodies are flooded daily with hormones. That is one reason I purposefully limit my own exposure to hormones, methyl parabens, phthalates, endocrine disrupters, dairy, soy, bleach, plastic and other xenoestrogens. Our liver cyst walls have hormone receptors. This means that within our body liver cysts will take any type of molecule that resembles a hormone and incorporate it as if it were true hormone. The result is expansion of our liver cysts. Mine have been solidly non expansive over the years.
Caffeine is another culprit that causes cyst expansion, but this is caused by another mechanism. Caffeine will expand any cyst by triggering the protein called cyclic AMP. This protein is like a communicator, it tells cysts to expand to fill with fluid and to go from a flattened envelope like structure to a fluid filled cystic structure. Caffeine can also weaken bones, raise cholesterol, increase GERD, raise blood pressure, and make one acidic, all are included among the many additional harmful effects of caffeine.
Weakened or less dense bones can come about from many causes; a lack of drinking dairy is not among them. Cultures that drink cow's milk have the highest rate of osteoporosis. Cultures who have the highest rate of osteopenia and later osteoporosis are cultures that consume the most amount of animal proteins. These cultures who have the least dense bones. And cultures that consume the highest amount of animal proteins have the highest number of deaths from prostate cancers, heart attacks, liver cancer, aging diseases.
Researchers studied ages 16 to 86 lifelong vegan raw food eating population RF. They found them to have stronger bones then their meat eating counterparts. Overall raw foodies RF were healthier, thinner, had higher levels of a special type of vitamin D beneficial for bone strength, but their bones were less dense as were their bodies, yet they had a very low rate of fractures. The end result I am seeking from my bones is no fractures as I age.
Medications can also contribute to fractures; long term use of proton pump inhibitors for GERD, immune suppressive agents following a transplant is another.
I am striving to live a long comfortable life well into my 120th year, join me. Hope to meet each of you someday.
