Dear All

1.                   I feel we need to discuss now on 4 or 5 finally proposed treatments for the case understudy. This will be a very productive outcome for me to plan the arrangement accordingly from this planning to next stage. I agree with M.P singh that I can even change the site in a manner that our final recommendation fit into it.  I was surprised during my site visit the importance given to environmental matters even in remote sites and other so many small communities are willing to participate. The idea of putting up pilot plant is two fold to improve water quality to save underground water contamination and secondly to put up a model to get performance result and lessons for future projects arrangement.

2.                   To sum up, we have so far discussed following options.

            (a)     By Liaqat Hayat as per attachment.

(b)     By Jacky Foo submitted on 19/07/07

Canal/trench system like irrigation canal and the sorghum crops is grown beside the canal

(c)           By M.P Singh submitted on 22/07/07

Restructure/dig a pond/ponds for 1-2 day's HRT. Make floats like the one's shown by Jacky Foo's posting taken from one of the papers by Paul T. You can keep them at about 1.25X1.25 meters. Take this effluent and leave it to flow in the open tract of land, which should be planted with Vetiver. Many thanks for his offer. I will respond later on this.

(d)    By Dick Grimshaw           submitted on 23/07/07
Vetiver grass between the trees and river bank.
(Vetiver "reedbed" type flow through system….. ……. And stabilization) needs to be elaborated more.

(e)     By Dr. Paul Truang.
To review all what we have discussed and provide his input when free from his seminar on use of plants and size of  CWL after model
           analysis .

(f)     May be I have missed one.

3.      We need to review all this and after  brain storming finally select one. With this I will have enough data to start the next phase. The  other brief points which are to be deliberated upon yet finally are

         -  Size of ponds/CWL as the case may be.

         -  Plants with vetiver finally considered most suitable for the purpose.

         -  Any dos and donts for the system adopted.

         -  Listing of further actions to be taken in sequence till completion and operation of the CWL.

         -  Mosquitoes breeding.

With best regards and thanks for the very useful comments.

Liaqat Hayat.

planning the details
Submitted by Hanns Pitot on Tue, 24/07/2007 - 16:13.

I think you could combine a) and b) into one approach, with the CWL
used as pretreatment, and so called ridge and furrow irrigation
(that's how I interpret Jacky's proposal) as final treatment/use of
the water.

What would be important to know for detailed planning would be the
water head available between the village and the creak, i.e.
difference of altitude.
