Hi guys,

I'm in the process of revising our points of unity based on feedback from last night. The following is my idea for the first point of unity:

"Regardless of whether Palestinians and Israelis choose to live side by side in two-states or whether they seek an alternative vision for future governance, they are in many ways inextricable from one another and therefore will always have to deal with each other. Thus, ordinary Arabs and Jews must set an example for leaders by focusing on justice, resolving inequality and cooperating for a peaceful future."

Below are the ones you've already seen, with revisions. I'll work on compiling links tomorrow.-R

  • We consider Israel ’s 1967 occupation of East Jerusalem, the Golan Heights, the West Bank and Gaza to be completely illegitimate under international law and to be morally reprehensible. The continuation and expansion of the 67 occupation is the primary obstacle to peace [cite 242] [wall] [land theft].
  • We oppose racism, sexism, Islamophobia, anti-Jewish hatred, anti-Arab racism and any other form of oppression or discrimination. We refuse to associate ourselves with any political agenda that promotes bigotry.
  • We support an end to the “special relationship” between our country, the U.S., and Israel and an end to our government giving our tax money to fund Israel’s ongoing occupation [report on spending].
  • We believe in equal rights for Palestinian citizens of Israel and support the work of groups in Israel working towards this goal [link to groups?].
  • We support Israeli acknowledgment of the 1948 nakba and the implementation of the Palestinian right of return [cite 194].
  • We oppose any political program that promotes the ethnic cleansing of Jews from historic Palestine [should we say Israel/Palestine, Palestine/Israel??] or anywhere else.
  • International law grants all peoples living under occupation the right to armed resistance [link] and defines the parameters of this resistance [link]. We acknowledge, along with many prominent human rights groups, that Palestinians also have this right, but we restrict our own activities to non-violence and oppose the targeting of innocents on both sides.
