No fewer than 18 CRT displays, and the spotty sync up has been fixed since this was shot. They're recieving live video content through TouchDesigner that can be changed on the fly or connected to video inputs... Just be cautious with your energy bill, this uses somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.5 kW to run lol.

Awesome!! This is exactly the type of installation I am trying to build. What Pi versions are you using? As it is an art project the cost of one Pi per CRT is a bit disappointing but I see no other way. Digital signage hardware can go up to 20k for 16 monitors or so..
(smaller) colour CRT monitors are also even hard to find for cheap nowadays, I am guessing maybe retro gamers are pumping up the prices?

An alternative I will test with is a couple of cheap lcd screens which I can buy here at the thrift store for €2.50 each, then my hope is using in an hdmi -> vga plug will work to connect the hdmi signal from the pi,which regarding to the specs a Pi 3 should be able to. Currently only in the posession of a single Pi 4 which could serve as the master controller.

Depending on where you live, you may be able to find them at your local transfer station (i.e. dump) or e-recycling center. My local transfer station has -- at least for now -- a steady supply of serviceable CRTs.
