Hi,
1. The readme.txt file in pivote1d2d.zip includes this instruction:

"Rename the directories test#intro_to_pivote and test#advanced_pivote
to test:intro_to_pivote and test:advanced_pivote (get round windows
file name limitations, better fix coming)"

This of course can't be done because the colon is one of the
prohibited characters. So I left the directories with the pound sign.
Should I consider that this will function properly?

2. Also is there an example of how to create a new simple case. I have
tried clicking on
Pivotemgr menu further options/ create new case and entered a name but
then am not sure where to go from here. I sort of expected it to show
up on the main screen as one of the cases that i now have access to.

All help is appreciated.

Paul,

1. At the moment the use of : is a hard coded - so the only way round it on Windows is to edit the source code so that it saves and reads files with whatever other symbol you want to use - although you should preferably keep : as the symbol that is visible to the user and used by the SL Interface etc. In the next release we'll move the symbol to the config file so that windows users can just specify an alternate symbol.

2. Its probably not working due to (1) above - its trying to create a new case, but failing as windows wont let it create a directory test:newcase or whatever.

You also asked about "fair use". Under GPL3 you are free to use PIVOTE on commercial projects under the no cost open source licence. The only restriction is that any changes/improvements you make to the code on commercial projects must be placed back into open source so they can be added to the PIVOTE code either centrally or by individual users

Thanks for your response. By "hard coded in source code", I assume you mean the .pl files that are on the server. I am prepared to go through and and change the symbol from colon to underscore. Any way to narrow the search for what I am looking for?
Thanks

Hi,
Well I am not a perl coder so after looking at the perl scripts i guess i will not be able to go through and find the places the symbol would need to be changed. Do you have any idea when you might make this change via the config file, or, are there other people that have modified the scripts to work on a win server that might share their code?
Thanks for putting together PIVOTE i mentioned it at the Tandem learning sl event today and some of those folks spoke highly of it.

We'll see if we can publish a patch for this in the next couple of weeks.
