Pivot4J 0.9 is released!

Hi, everyone.

I'm pleased to announce that Pivot4J 0.9 has arrived now. You can download it from our homepage and there's a small summary for the changes also.

From this version, Pivot4J releases are available from the Maven central repository (The sync is not enabled yet though, so It might need some time before it works).

I wish you could take some time to test it and file any issues you might find on the GitHub's issue list.

The next release(1.0) will be our first stable release so I'm planning to put more effort on eliminating any loose ends on the API and improving documentation, etc.

Hi Xavier,

I've just started using Pivot4j in Pentaho 5.0.1 CE. I'm new to almost the entire stack (Tomcat,Mondrian, mixed 64/32 bit on windows, schema, MDX etc etc but in only a couple of hours I have some user friendly reports running). That's remarkable. Thanks. I have v1.0 Snapshot, so far no problems. Thanks. So far it seems very featured and stable, and I like the MDX view which appears to be editable.

I do have a question ... in Pentaho CE v5, when I save a report as a favourite, when it is opened, it starts in "read only" mode, which has no interactive features as far as I can tell. No way to collapse and expand levels, etc. I have to take the time to browse for the report and choose edit. 

Saiku has an "edit button" which activates edit mode after the report is viewed. Am I missing something in Pivot4J?

Hi Tim,

No, you're not missing anything, as it's one of the known limitation of the Pivot4J plugin.

From a developer's perspective, I believe that such a feature should be provided by the platform itself. Once I asked one of its developers for opinion, and he seemed to agree with me on this point. So I decided to leave the issue as it is until it could be enhanced by the platform itself.

But I do understand that users might think otherwise, and maybe Saiku's decision to fix this on the plugin level might be the better approach for them.

So, I can't promise right now that it'll be fixed soon, but I probably should consider to see if there's anyway to implement it without introducing too much mess.

Sorry for the inconvenience. If I come up with anything later, I'll let you know about it.

A change would be appreciated as a user of the Pentaho plugin, because it's hard to deploy it to end users at the moment.

Thanks. The Edit button is great. I;m going to migrate my reports to Pivot4J and give it a serious try with some users.

 As soon as a change is made, the save icons become visible, which is also nice. 

On save, I am getting a dialog "Error encountered while saving: TypeError: n is undefined"

It saves, however.

Also, Pentaho has an icon to create a new report, but your plugin is not registered as an option. It looks like a new page icon with a plus sign.

I usually wait one or two weeks before I made request to update the Marketplace entry, because I don't want to bother them every weeks with pull requests and also because I prefer snapshots to be tested more before they're available to others.

And thanks for the detailed feedback! I didn't knew about those problems, and I'll be looking into them this weekend.

If you find anything not working or have any suggestions, please don't hesitate to let me know.

I am still getting this error when saving reports (although despite the error they save ok)

Sorry I haven't yet been able to address this issue. Though it's a low priority issue, but I should have checked it sooner.

I'll try to investigate in this issue on this weekend, and possibly fix it.

I have downloaded and extracted the Pivot4j content into pentaho-solutions/system in the biserve-ce but when i access the web interface through localhost, there is no Pivot4jView as an option. It is the old jpivotView that is there.
how do i resolve this?

Hi John,

Sorry to hear that you had problems using the project. Usually, such kind of a problem leaves a stacktrace information in the log file, 

so I'd like to suggest checking the log file first to see if you can find any relevant messages with the plugin.

Please let me know if you find anything and need further assistance with it.
