Can PIVlab be used to perform Background Oriented Schlieren, in which displacements of the BOS bacground image are smaller than 1 pixel?

Yes it can, although subpixel displacements of interest may turn out to be of similar magnitude to the "noise level" of your BOS setup. In that case, try to increase your signal strength and/or reduce the BOS noise level.
