Looking for your INSIGHT!
Dear Colleague
The United Labor Agency (ULA, http://ulagency.org), is the One-Stop Center operator in both Cleveland, Ohio and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as well as the Title I contractor in both those cities as well as Summit and Lake Counties, Ohio. Recently, ULA has undertaken an initiative that will enable it to standardize the work performed by Employment Specialists and to create training curriculum that strengthens the professionalism of these positions.
The first of these resources is an occupational profile of an Employment Specialist, created with the input of a panel comprised of ULA’s most effective Employment Specialists.
The ULA panel defined an Employment Specialist as someone who: “guides job seekers to achieve employment by assisting them to clarify their employment goals, providing them job readiness services, connecting them to occupational skills training, coordinating their access to other supportive services and tracking their progress.”
We believe that many local organizations have individuals who perform similar jobs, though they may give them a different title. We also believe that the profile developed by our panel has broad applicability and can provide a common standard for organizations throughout the country. To ensure that this is so, we are asking you to have the individuals in your organization who do the work of an Employment Specialist to review and comment on the profile. They can do that by accessing a survey found here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/EmpSpec. Completing the survey should take no more than 30 minutes. It will remain open until September 30.
We would also appreciate you forwarding this message and link to organizations in your local area who have staff performing the work of an Employment Specialist.
Please forward questions to Joe Ippolito, jipp...@edc.org.
Once the survey is completed, we will make copies of the profile available to your organization. Thank you for your help!
