CLP – Lawrenceville is a historic landmark, opened in 1898 at the forefront of Library planning. It was the second American public library designed with a children’s room in mind and, historians believe, was the first designed with innovative radial open stacks, enabling the public to access the stacks themselves.  The Lawrenceville neighborhood is comprised of an exciting mix of lifelong residents and new people moving into the community. Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, a number of nonprofit organizations, and Arsenal Park all call Lawrenceville home. People travel to the neighborhood to visit its many restaurants, art galleries, and one of a kind boutiques.  The Library is well loved by the community. An active nonprofit, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh -Lawrenceville Friends of the Library, works to advocate and raise funds to support our many initiatives to engage the community in literacy and learning.
