Librarian Position Announcements

CLP – Downtown & Business

CLP – East Liberty

At Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh (CLP), we believe in the richness of diversity.  We build community, enable learning, provide access and value people. Our vision is that through Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh the people of our region will develop the literacies and connections that support individual achievement and strengthen the power of the community.  If this is what inspires you, then consider revitalizing your career with CLP!

Both our East Liberty and Downtown locations have full-time Librarian opportunities available.  Our Librarians lead the development and implementation of core library services and programs that positively impact their particular community and system-wide.  They do this by cultivating a welcoming, resource-rich environment that provides access and opportunity, and actively engages individuals and organizations throughout a diverse and changing city.  CLP Librarians oversee day-to-day operations and act as mentors to both staff and volunteers by modeling, supporting and embracing the execution of the CLP Service Standards in public service; both physical and virtual.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in serving diverse communities and a passion for community-focused service design.  Strong leadership skills and the ability to engage staff regarding CLP’s strategic direction is necessary.

CLP-Downtown and Business is located in the heart of the renaissance city of Pittsburgh. We bustle with activity, just like our neighborhood, with over 300,000 library visits last year. The neighborhood has changed drastically in the past 10 years and now proudly proclaims itself “the 18-hour downtown.” With cultural amenities, restaurants galore, sporting events, farmers’ markets, numerous festivals, shops and parks, the neighborhood has something for everyone. Our library business services include outreach and embedded librarianship, and we specialize in serving new and prospective small business owners. We serve a diverse cultural and socioeconomic patron base at our library, and are growing in the areas of children and teen services, and adult outreach.

The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh has been a fixture in East Liberty since 1905.  The Library moved to its current space in 1968 and underwent a major renovation in 2010.  CLP-East Liberty is located within a vibrant business district in a dynamic neighborhood that is undergoing a residential and commercial transition.  East Liberty is becoming one of the city’s most unique and distinct neighborhoods. CLP-East Liberty serves a diverse cultural and socioeconomic patron base and is one of CLP’s largest and busiest branches, circulating over 20,000 items monthly.
