Strikes me that I've been communicating with people fairly sporadically, so I wanted to do a bit of a broadcast and let (just about) everybody know.
For those of you out of the loop before now: Sorry, no rhyme nor reason for who got left out, I just wasn't very organized about it. To bring you up to date, on Monday, I had surgery on my right foot to correct a bunion, with associated arthritis and even a neat little bone chip. I now have a bionic toe.
Latest: Saw my doc today, went well. Narrowly missed out on getting the stitches removed (she wants to see the swelling in a small spot come down a bit more). Latest plan is that the stitches will come out this coming Monday, and then I will be able to wean myself from the crutches. After that will come
a five- to seven-week period of Mickey-Mouse-bootie limited mobility, but at least I'll be able to drive myself to work, get around a bit, etc.
After that, I'll be wrestling with the difficult question of when to do the left foot. I may take some time and see if fixing the right one (which was worse) improves my situation enough that I can put it off. I'm not relishing another six- to eight-week period of hobbling. We'll see.
Anyhow, I'm doing well and the recovery is on schedule (more like the original schedule my doc told me before the surgery than the more conservative one they gave me post-op). Surgery wasn't fun, but it wasn't horrible either, and right now my chief complaint is keeping the swelling down -- doesn't hurt much, but then I haven't been putting weight on it before today (partial weight bearing from now). I am, in fact, going out of my mind with the inactivity of the last
week.
Anyhow, that's where I am. Hope to see everybody in due course, and again I'm feeling well.
