to Pittsburgh-Area Recumbent Riders
The electric vehicle association meets this Saturday at 10 AM in
Murraysville. I was looking for an excuse for a long Saturday ride
anyhow, and I am interested in electric assist motors for recumbents,
and to associate with other electric-vehicle geeks. At this months's
meeting they are going to show some video clips of electric drag
racers, but much of the time is open discussion. I think it breaks up
a little after noon.

I don't know if this interests anyone, or if there is anything else to
do in Murraysville. It should be a nice ride though. I was planning
to go from East Liberty (Baum and Negley) down to Braddock, Turtle
Creek and Trafford (taking small quiet that parallel the Tri-Boro
Expressway), and then up Trafford Road to Murraysville. This seems to
be the flattest route, missing the killer hills of old 22 and the
deadly traffic of business 22, yet it's not nearly so flat as a rail
trail. WPXI says Saturday is supposed to be mostly sunny, with a high
of 81. An early morning ride should be comfortable, but coming back
will be a bit warm.

I'm a little faster than I was three years ago, when Dan Blumenthal
kept patiently waiting for me to catch up, but I'm still slow, being
overweight and 61 years old, and on a creaky old Linear LWB. (No, it
doesn't have an electric motor at the moment.) I'm guessing it's a 3.5
hour ride each way, although it might be less. In any case, I plan to
set out at 6:30 AM just to be sure to make 10 AM. If I am too slow for
others, I don't mind being left behind, as I plan to go alone anyhow
if nobody chooses to go along. I can also meet people anywhere along
the route.
