Hi, all. We've got what looks like pleasant weather for the Mingo Creek Meander 100K this coming Saturday July 5th; and, the following weekend is the first offering of Tom Hovan's new route out of Altoona, the Ridge and Valley 600K.

Because the 600K is designed to permit easy resupply (the start, overnight, and finish controles are all at the Comfort Inn in Duncansville), there's no need for drop bags or additional hotel rooms. So, there's no event fee for this one, although riders are of course responsible for their own accommodations at the Comfort Inn or nearby.

To anyone on the fence about the 600K - don't be.  I guarantee a pleasant ride and beautiful countryside. And the ridge and valley area is probably the nicest part of PA, although I may be a bit biased.  The ridge climbs aren't easy, but the payoff is extended stretches of relatively benign terrain between them.  Let me know if anyone has questions about the route.

Just a heads up on the 600K.  Due to a bridge being replaced in Cumberland Valley, the Day 2 route had to be modified a bit, and this shortened the overall route to just under 600K. As a result, we had to make the turnaround control near Lewisburg slightly closer to Lewisburg, to get the mileage back up.  The Frosty Cow is no longer control #3, but a stop either there or the Sheetz that not far away would be highly recommended for resupply.

Minor update on the 600K next weekend.   The route was updated on both day 1 and 2 a little bit to detour around a bridge replacement project and keep it above 600K.  The Purple Cow is no longer the control near Lewisburg due to a need to add a little bit of distance, but you should still stop either there or the Sheetz that is also close nearby for resupply.

I tried posting that message a couple of days ago and it didn't work.  Since tried again a shortly after, and that didn't work either.  Both times it displayed "message deleted".  And now they show up a few days later.  Weird.  This message might have the same fate.  We'll see.  I am posting this Tuesday morning at 6:30.
