Hello everyone,

Quick summary: I’m restarting the monthly Materials SuperGroup meetings and want you to volunteer students, postdocs, or faculty new to Pitt or CMU to give 20-minute talks over the next year. I am particularly interested in groups who have not previously participated in the SuperGroup meetings, especially those at CMU.

If you’re interested in participating, please e-mail me the name of a student or postdoc and a topic and I’ll start scheduling.

The Pittsburgh Materials SuperGroup started in 2012 as a way to see some of the great research in other groups, build collaborations, and strengthen our students. Talks came from groups in different topics, different departments, different schools, etc.

Each meeting has three 20-minute talks, largely by students/postdocs on the last Friday of every month, at the Chevron Science Center at Pitt from 4-5 pm. Interested parties could then continue discussion over beer or food.

(BTW, while we have largely hosted the talks at the Chevron Science Center at Pitt, if you can help me find a location at CMU, we can alternate to make it more convenient to everyone.)

If you have contacts at local companies, Duquesne, or beyond, who you think would be interested in participating (e.g., PPG, Bayer, Braskem), whether giving a talk or attending, please let me know. I would like to make this as broad and diverse a group as possible.

Thanks for your suggestions!
-Geoff
