Dear Pittsburgh Coffee Partiers,

Big apologies for having been silent for a few weeks.  It just seems that Frank and I took turns being out of town since early July, and couldn't organize any events.

But the summer is over.  It is time to get back to serious work.

Enough is Enough Campaign
I am sure we all watched in horror what the Congress did with the debt ceiling debate.  Washington has become so dysfunctional that the US is becoming a joke around the world!  We say, Enough is Enough!  The Coffee Party has launched a call for the Enough is Enough March on Washington (and other cities)  http://www.coffeepartyusa.com/enoughmarch   This is a major undertaking.  We didn't come to this decision lightly, but we in the national team felt that our country is drowning in special interest money.  Our democracy is stake, and  the only thing that we have is ourselves - the People.  We have to gather and speak up.  This March is likely to happen in late October.  If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up here, get on one of the planning calls, or contact me.

Here is the FB page for the Enough is Enough campaign - https://www.facebook.com/EnoughIsEnoughMarch

August TownHall
As part of this campaign, we are asking people attend their Rep/Senators' town hall meetings during this recess.  http://www.coffeepartyusa.com/rx-doimatternow  But I noticed that not too many are doing them probably because they know there will be some very unhappy constituents there.

OUR NEXT MEETING
Our next meeting is Sat, Sept. 10, 3:00-4:30pm, Carnegie Library in Squirrel Hill - https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=253966317964256
We would like to talk about the Enough is Enough Campaign and start planning for the 2012 election.  What can we do to have impact in the elections so that we elect people who can work towards getting money out of politics and work for the people?
Please mark your calendar and tell others.  Will send a flyer soon.

Frank is also working on setting up a meeting with Barry Kaufmann of Common Cause PA in late September.  Stay tuned for that one.

Run for the Coffee Party Board of Directors
In the fall the Coffee Party will hold an on-line election in which our members will vote for our first elected Board of Directors. Coffee Party USA is now accepting for nominations/applications for nine (9) positions on the Board of Directors.  http://www.coffeepartyusa.com/board-call
If you have interest in running for the Board, please contact me.  I would be happy to answer any questions.

Coffee Party at the TRCF Building Change: Convergence for Social Justice Conference, Oct. 13-15
The Coffee Party will have a panel and a table at the conference.   Please register to attend - http://trcfwpa.org/?page_id=192  I will send out more info on this later.

Coffee Party Book Club
We are trying to start a Coffee Party Book Club - http://www.coffeepartyusa.com/cx_books
Our first book is Robert Reich's Aftershock, trying to get him to come on our Coffee Party blogtalk radio in September.  Read the book and at least get on our Facebook event to discuss the book on Aug. 28 - https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=256292931049716   If I have any economists here who can help me moderate that this discussion, I would really appreciate it.

Larry Lessig
Larry Lessig agreed to come speak in Pittsburgh.  This is in early stages because we would have to raise money to cover his expenses.  So we will need to talk more about this.  But meanwhile he is organizing a conference on the Constitutional Convention in September with a Tea Party founder - http://www.conconcon.org/  But also Annabel Park and Eric Byler, the founders of the Coffee Party will speak there as well.  I guess that will be fun.  We will have to wait and see how that goes.

Democracy Convention, Madison, WI, Aug. 24-28.

The Coffee Party is also sponsoring and present at the Democracy Convention in Madison - http://democracyconvention.org/   If you know anyone in that region, please spread the word about the convention, which is next week!

Sorry for the overload of information.  I have been saving up all these announcements over the summer!  I am sure I am still forgeting something...

See you all soon!!
