Good day everyone! Marcia Bandes here!
PIttsburgh is participating in the nationwide Move to Amend Bannering Event on May 10th! See more details below.
Everyone is welcome to come!
This note is specifically asking for volunteers. Please let me know if you can help out. And if so, which hour(s) are best for you and which activities you wish to participate in.
Then forward this note to other people tired of corporations taking over our democracy!
We are looking for a minimum of 4-6 volunteers for each hour (3:30 – 4:30pm and 4:30 to 5:30pm). Your role will be to
1) Hold one of the 4 poles holding our banner up over the Greenfield bridge so that drivers heading east on 376 will get a good view!
The poles will rest on the ground so no one will have to keep their arms raised to hold the banner up.
Our banner reads
WE CAN LIMIT CORPORATE POWER!
MOVEtoAMEND.ORG
2) Hand out fliers to interested people walking by.
3) Ask interested people if they would like to sign our Move to Amend petition
If you are interested in volunteering and/or would like more information please respond to this email. I will get back to you!
MOVETOAMEND PITTSBURGH BANNER EVENT!
GREENFIELD BRIDGE
MAY 10th from 3:30-5:30 pm
Corporate personhood wasn't created with the Citizens United case. Corporate Personhood was concocted by corporate lawyers 127 years ago.
On May 10, 1886 in the Santa Clara v. Southern Pacific Railroad case, the Court gave corporations their first foothold in the Constitution.
Corporations argued that they are protected under the 14th amendment — the amendment passed to ensure equal protection of African Americans after slavery was abolished. Since then, there has been case after case in which the Court expanded the Constitutional "rights" of corporations.
This year, on the 127th "birthday" of corporate persons, Move to Amend activists will be displaying freeway banners all over the nation. Learn more about Move to Amend and our strategy to end corporate personhood.

Also, if you have some additional ideas for making this a fun event, we are open to suggestions. For example, I was thinking of possibly handing out hard candies to pedestrians, to draw them over to us.
Lastly, it is not our intention to get arrested. The banner will be held up, not hung on the bridge. And as long as we do not block traffic it is my understanding that we should be fine.
