First of all nice work on the T12 flying. It looks awesome!! Im
putting on the windshield closure strips and wondering what the gap
should be on the canopy. My real question is whether they should lay
down fairly tight against the canopy or if there should be a little
room so when the canopy slides shut there is no possibility of the
canopy hitting the strips as it closes. Thanks

Joel,

The strips can be fitted down on the canopy.  no need for added gap as the slope of the bubble works great to allow it to slide under the strips without issues.

Hello All,

Can anyone tell me how the straps for the wing tank 1) secure the tank and 2) are to be fastened to the spars?

Thanks, KG

Kevin,

The wing tank straps have 4 holes in them.  The 2 holes that are not near the ends of the straps are bolted to the center section spars with AN 3 bolts, washers and nuts as required.  Simply form the strap into the tank bay in a shape similar to that of the tank with the 2 ends points straight up out of the bay.  The self adhesive felt padding is pressed onto the tank where the strap will touch it and the tank lowered into the center section.  Bend the ends of the straps over the tank fore and aft and see the ends come close to each other.  Us the 16S turnbuckle assemblies with clevis and cotter pins to connect the ends of the straps to each other and tighten.  Refer to Ac43.13-1B for details of how to safety the turn buckles and pins.

Kevin,

I would like to make certain regarding wing tank installation and the felt strips....
  • The felt gets stuck to the tank around the path of the metal strap.
  • No felt is put between the ribs and the tank
  • Optionally, some felt strips may be placed between the tank and the spar faces.
Is this correct?

Thanks,

Darin

Yes.  All the way around even under the turnbuckles.

  • No felt is put between the ribs and the tank
Correct.  No felt on the wooden ribs.  Sand the ribs smooth.

No.  No felt on spars.  Tank is not close enough to the spars for felt to do any good.
Is this correct?

Thanks,

Darin
