Rehabilitation Counseling Department’s Inter-Professional Dialogue
Thursday, November 17, 2016 in Forbes Tower Room 4060 from 3:00-4:30 PM
The dialogue’s focus is Autism Spectrum Disorder client care. Looking for a panel of professional students familiar with this population in regards to their professions.
“We want students to discuss what their profession has to offer this population thus making each of us more familiar with our profession, services other professions have to offer and making us more familiar with when to refer out to other specialties. So far OT has a doctoral fellow who is interested in speaking on the panel as well as a rehab science doctoral student and rehab counselor. Additionally, their students from UPSOTA and RSCO are participating in the informal discussion section. We are looking to get more students involved! If you know of any other graduate students who would be interested please forward this information to them.
The dialogue will be an interactive presentation of each of the disciplines where a formal presentation by each panelist will be given and then an informal discussion will take place. The formal presentation will entail questions for the panelists on their professional interactions with ASD. Then students will be able to ask the panelist any outstanding questions they may have. The informal discussion will potentially consist of groups of students from different professions discussing a case study that requires the services of each discipline. Afterwards we will reconvene and end off sharing discussions from the small groups to everyone as a whole.
We would love to learn from other young professionals, such as Speech, PT, Pharmacy, Medicine, Social Work, Special Education department, as to what resources they have to offer and how those resources affect our clients. I think it's important to start the inter-professional teamwork discussion as students so that when we are in the workforce we will more effectively be able to consult and refer out to other disciplines when needed as well as bring a more holistic approach to client care.”
Please contact Subhana Chaudhri at su...@pitt.edu if you are interested in participating.
