Howdy campers,

Are you into the woods, outdoorsy pursuits, and good people? Then I have JUST the thing for you!

WMS will be heading out in the great Dolly Sods Wilderness in West Virginia on the weekend of Nov 6 and 7 (which is good for the 1st and 2nd years from what I'm told) for a fun weekend of hiking and camping. It'll be a two day backpacking trip, but don't worry if you've never been backpacking before! We're gonna take it easy, and between all of us I'm sure we can round up enough gear and equipment.

My thought is to head out friday night, car camp out somewhere along the way, enjoy some hot dogs, veggie burgers, and some hot apple cider over a campfire, then head into the Wilderness on saturday morning. We'll hike out to this beautiful river crossing I know and set up camp for a night. Next day we'll do a little bit of hiking and be back Sunday afternoon.

This is an AWESOME way to check out some of the outdoor offerings; the Dolly Sods are GORGEOUS! (see attached photos)

Please email doan....@medstudent.pitt.edu and NOT the list if you're interested in going, and please indicate if you are driving capable also!

Walkin' the Sods,
Dan

Hi Annie,
I've got a sleeping bag and pad you can borrow. How shall I get it to you?

Hey guys,

I seem to have left my sleeping bag/sleeping pad at home in chicago, so if anyone has another extra they would let me borrow I would really appreciate it! I would also be willing to exchange for baked goods!

Thanks,
Katie

Can't attest to those baked goods, but the more the merrier!

Btw, this gonna be a park and camp or hike and camp outing? If the former, I inherited an awesome set of cast iron pans, the largest of which has a 15" diameter and could feed a good number of people :-)

Hey guys,

Looks like we'll be leaving Saturday morning, not Friday. We'll leave early, around 7.

This is gonna be a cool-weather backpacking trip - so you'll be carrying your gear/food around with you, and you'll need a tent as well.  You'll need a warm (at least rated to 25 degrees) sleeping bag, and a sleeping pad to get you off the ground.  Food will be individual, so carry enough food for yourself for Saturday and Sunday. For clothing pack warmly, try to avoid cotton if possible since it makes you more prone to dampness and therefore hypothermia. Definitely have a rainproof layer. A rainjacket at the minimum and pants as a bonus.  Have good sturdy boots that will protect your ankles from rolling and have enough traction to keep you from slipping.  And as the name of the activity implies you'll need a backpack to carry all this around.  As always your camping essentials: flashlight, knife, 10 essentials, water bottles, toiletries.

Please utilize the list so you don't have to buy this stuff!!

Group gear that will be brought so you don't have to worry:
Stoves
Water filters

If you have more questions please direct your emails to doan....@medstudent.pitt.edu and not the listserv.

Yay camping!!

Hi Katie,
Annie said that she's not going camping this weekend so you could use my sleeping bag and sleeping pad if you want. I don't think I'm going to be in Scaife today but I could bring it tomorrow, or you can pick them up at my house . . . I live in Greenfield so it might be easier if I bring them to Scaife tomorrow. Just let me know! My phone number is 937-369-8857 or you can email me.

Liz
