One of the ED residents, Micha Campbell, is interested in hosting a Wilderness Medicine Skills clinic to teach us some survival techniques including firebuilding, shelters, and signaling. If there is sufficient interest, we may hold it this weekend either Saturday or Sunday at Frick Park. Shouldn't be too time consuming, maybe an hour or two.
This will be the first of several such skills clinics to teach wilderness medicine and help us train for this year's MedWars. For those of you not familiar with MedWars, it's an adventure style race that incorporates Wilderness Medicine stations and scenarios that test your wilderness medicine knowledge and land navigation skills. There is one in Pennsylvania this August and WMS is planning on going as a club. So if you'd like to participate or just improve your wilderness skill set, I would highly recommend joining us for this skill session!
In other news, I just got back from the best month of my entire life: a Wilderness Medicine Elective (for credit!) out in Utah. Many of you have asked me about the details of this, so I will come up with a quick presentation (pictures, contact info, how to go about doing it), so keep an eye out for this, we can meet over beers (or other beverages) and you can find out how you too can do an elective like that during medical school.
Please email me with your preference for day (this saturday or sunday) for the skill clinic!
Thanks,
Dan Doan

tonight?
