Do you ever sit inside during February, look out the window and think to yourself "Man, I want to be out there"? Are you itching to melt some snow? Well then I have some good news for you:
It's that time of year again! Pitt Wilderness Med Society is doing its Annual Snowshoeing Trip February 26-27!!!
What: Snowshoeing in the Laurel Highlands + overnight camping in the trail shelters
Where: Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail, we'll do the route from two years ago (relatively flat, 6 miles each day, beer stop halfway through on day 1)
Who: YOU
Why: Because snow is beautiful, and so are you
As far as gear is concerned, there is enough collective gear to be had from asking the list-serv for equipment. You'll need: a warm sleeping bag (rated to at least 15 degrees F), warm clothes (preferably synthetic/polyester to hike in so you stay dry, a WARM jacket to throw on at night, some form of rain pants/snow pants, good gloves, hat, etc.) and a backpack!
We will rent snowshoes from REI as usual, which ends up being $17 for the weekend each.
Please email me at
doan....@medstudent.pitt.edu if you're interested in going, and let me know if you need a pair of showshoes so we can rent them.
Happy snow days!
Dan
