Sincethe release of Primavera P6 Professional R8.4, the software abandoned its long held use of an Oracle XE database. Primavera P6 used the Oracle XE databse as its standalone solution. Instead you can now use a P6 SQLite database option for running Primavera P6 Professional in standalone mode.

Sound reasonably simple right? Well as always, the devil is in the details. This blog highlights a couple of key show-stoppers that you must know about before attempting this operation: nothing too serious, but frustrating if you have to figure them all out for yourself.

You can login with either Windows Authentication or SQL Server Authentication. In either case you will need to enter the Server Name when you first login. This will be a combination of the computer name \ instance name.

With a successful connection, you are now ready to login to your new SQL Server Express database. Click on your new Alias from the list of Available Databases and then choose Select.

Yes, the tables show the one-time software price + the first year of annual support which is required.

The annual support subscription includes upgrades to the software. It is not required to continue subscribing every year but highly recommended because if you decide in a few years you want an upgrade, Oracle will charge you for the years of annual support you missed in between.

hi, any idea how much P6 2018 model costs? and if a company I am learning with charges me 1000 to learn primavera ad told me that they will need to download the p6 software to my laptop, I would have expected latest version 21.12. but on getting the laptop back, threedays later, i find out it is model 2018. Is tat normal?

I think it would depend on the company you went through, but I would assume that purchasing P6 would provide you with the newest version, as that is what you would recieve when purchasing from us. P6 2018 would have had a price comparable with the newest model, available on our website here.

If you are talking about installing it on 1 computer, and having several users use it, one at a time, one after the other, then you will only need to install it once, and create all those different users in your Windows operating system. Only one of them will be able to login into his or her Windows account at a given time and use it.

A Primavera P6 Professional standalone database is a database that is used to store and manage the data of a few projects. It is considered a standalone database because it is designed to be used by a single user or a small group of users. In addition, it is not connected to any other system or database. The standalone database or SQLite Database comes with the same Primavera P6 Professional package that you download from the Oracle website.

Note, however, that a standalone database using SQLite also has its limitations. For example, it is not suitable for large-scale or long-term projects. This is because it is not as scalable as other database options. In addition, it does not offer the same data sharing and collaboration options as other options, such as centralized or cloud databases.

Sometimes, due to the limitations of a standalone database, we are interested in storing and managing the data of a project using Primavera P6 Professional and a SQL Server database. Microsoft SQL Server Database is a relational database management system developed by Microsoft that offers high performance, scalability, and security.

Using a Microsoft SQL Server database with Primavera P6 Professional can be more complicated and costly than the standalone option. It is necessary to purchase a SQL Server license and it may be necessary to hire specialized staff to administer and maintain the database. In addition, the configuration and use of SQL Server may require a steeper learning curve.

When it comes to database configuration for working with Primavera P6 Professional, we have 4 options to choose from as controller types. We have evaluated two different database options. The Standalone (SQLite) is the easiest to configure and is suitable for small projects with little management demand. However, if you have a larger volume of projects, we recommend setting up Microsoft SQL Server or SQL Express. Microsoft SQL Server is easy to use and connects well with other project planning and control tools, such as Power BI or Python.

Thanks for getting back. I will try and give you as much information as possible.. I have got a Windows 7 Home premuim laptop and a primavera p6 software.. I tried downloading the software in standalone mode.. it takes me through the normal procedures then it tries connecting with the Sql server database...(i am assuming the Sql server of the computer). then a message pops up'' sql server not compatible with the software'' and gives me the option of checking for possible solutions on line.. which came back as having no info.. the download continues after that to the very end...which you are supposed to get a ''connection successful''... but i get an error message saying ''connection failed---Error FFFF''

Am not particularly sure if i wil need to get an sql server/database compatible with this particular software as it installed quite easily in standalone mode with a friend that has a windows XP.. if so... would i have to unistall all servers on my Windows 7 before installing an ''XP like server''. Sorry i can't really help you with all the technical terms but i hope you understand what i am trying to say..

When it comes to installing Primavera v6, I can't picture the installer off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure it has the option to run a "Custom" installation instead of standard or default options.

The main thing is to ignore the SQL application part, but to make sure the actual database is installed (a file). You'll then have the database server and the Primavera software installed on your PC and that's half the battle...

It is a bit more difficult to run you through the next part without going through dozens of possible scenarios/steps depending on what you do with the installation, but if you get that far feel free to reply here and I'll get back to you as soon as I can (or someone else probably will be able to talk through "attaching a database" in SQL Express)...

Thanks once again... Yes it does have custom install.. would you advise i use that and just one final question.. Do i have to install any sql on my PC at the moment before i install the once's that you have recommended. Looking forward to your reply... and i will also let you know if i encounter any further problems..
