Pizza4P's is a pizza chain based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.[1][2][3] Founded in 2011 by Japanese entrepreneurs Yosuke Masuko and Sanae Takasugi, the company operates 32 locations in Vietnam, Cambodia, India, and Japan.[4][5] The company takes a farm-to-table approach to pizza, operating a dairy in Đơn Dương district to produce its own cheese.[1][6]

Summary : The pizza was the best I had during my travels to Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand. The topping combos are insane and the fact that it's hidden down an alley only adds to the allure.

TOKYO -- A Japanese couple has spent the past decade building a chain of restaurants in Southeast Asia, but Yosuke Masuko and Sanae Takasugi did not succeed with sushi, ramen or tempura; their specialty is pizza.

Their first shop opened in 2011 in Ho Chi Minh City. As of the end of April, Pizza 4P's had expanded to 32 locations in the country, including 14 in the southern commercial hub and 12 in Hanoi. It has also gone international, having entered Cambodia in 2021, and India and Japan in 2023.

Last year, Ho Chi Minh City-headquartered investment fund Mekong Capital sold its stake in the fast-growing pizza company. The business did not say who it sold the shares to or what its return on investment was in the company.

I had a close friend when I was a teenager. He had loving parents, and in school, he was popular, being the captain of the rowing club. We created movies together, one of which won an award in a film festival in San Francisco. He was clearly very talented and was always the center of attention. I thought he was happy.

As I battled my own mental issues, all I could think about was how could one become happy. With constant conflicting thoughts, I felt lost. I did not know what my purpose in life was. But I knew I want to be happy.

My friends and I were all fascinated by this simple yet flexible dish that seemed to hold the power to bring happiness. You could put almost any topping on a pizza and still make people smile. My good friend quit his job as a commercial film director to become a pizza chef because of the excitement of those pizza party experiences.

Can a pizza restaurant provide all that for the world? Maybe not on its own. But we can start. We can help. We can provide the trigger moment, a taste of happiness for every customer. We can provide a happy experience that can remind the customers' hearts of the inner peace and long-lasting happiness that lies hidden there.

Organic, pesticide-free vegetables have always been used for their pizzas. But there is a culture in Vietnam to deliver a desirable vegetable size. Otherwise, vegetables taste bitter once they grow bigger beyond a certain size.

However, just like Japan was once before, Vietnam is an economically developing country. Farmers need to focus on making a living, therefore they prefer to ship vegetables in a condition that makes the biggest profit. This different priorities of the buyer and the supplier caused some difficulty for Masuko in finding a farmer with the same mindset.

Thien Sinh Farm grow vegetables without any pesticides, bactericides or weed killers. Their goal is to spread sustainable agriculture in Vietnam, eventually leading to a production high quality food at reasonable prices.

Even though Masuko has put so much effort into sustainable actions, he kept repeating this phrase. Reducing the use of plastic, changing wet-towels and to-go containers to sustainable products are still on the to-do list. The present state is far from his ideal.

He learned to do this from his experience in school while studying video production. During that time, he joined a Japanese project to build a school in Kenya. The project was carried out with 2 million yen, which was self-funded by the leader. After that, Masuko joined another project to make a 3-minute movie in 3 days to present to Bill Gates at his foundation. That video raised approximately 2 billion yen of donation in just 30 seconds, which was then used for administering vaccines.

Pizza 4P's (Platform of Personal Pizza for Peace) might have easily been lost among the slew Japanese sushi and noodle joints on the bustling stretch it sits, but the city's first Japanese-Italian fusion pizzeria is a standout. Run by businessman Yosuke Masuko, the restaurant is a tribute to the 'pizza parties' he hosted in his youth in Japan. The bar, a private wood-panelled dining room and dedicated cheese retail space are designed by local firm 07Beach and include Japanese touches against a subtle Western backdrop. The sushi bar, by contrast, features arched ceilings, marble walls and countertops embellished with mosaics chopped from brightly coloured tiles. The pizzas themselves are equally enticing, made with Japanese-inspired ingredients (tuna, calamari seaweed) and mozzarella sourced from the highland city of Dalat.

Apart from the dine-in and delivery business, pizza 4Ps distributes a wide range of retail products to restaurants, gourmet stores and directly to the consumer. Those products include house-made cheese from their factory in Lam Dong and frozen pizza and pasta. The packaging for these products has to meet food safety standards and ensure high quality over a long shelf-life for customers, therefore, plastic material has been used for production. Unfortunately, these materials are not compostable and recyclable effectively in Vietnam.

Pizza 4Ps is looking for and testing alternative materials that have less impact such as home-compostable bioplastic, seaweed packaging, and natural leaves. However, these options require additional advancement and commercialization to become feasible in the Vietnam market.

Pizza 4Ps decided to work with TONTOTON to reduce the impact of plastic from their current packaging. Together, we track the plastic packaging they use in their retail products. Meanwhile, TONTOTON rescues and recycles an equal weight of post-consumer, non-recyclable ocean-bound plastic on their behalf.

TONTOTON empowers the local communities by providing ethical, safe and sustainable earnings to the local waste pickers and the communities. These non-recyclable plastics are rescued from the coastlines of Phu Quoc Island and Hon Son Island, and used as an alternative fuel at a cement manufacturing factory which replaces the fossil fuel usage.

TONTOTON employs a stringent verification process based on the Ocean Bound Plastic Neutrality Standard to ensure the operations meet these certified standards. In addition, Pizza 4Ps customers can connect to the impact story simply by buying their plastic neutral products and scanning the QR code to discover the impact and relevant story on the ground.

For any of the following retail products with our TONTOTON Plastic Neutral logo, an equal weight of plastic waste is rescued and converted to energy while empowering vulnerable coastal communities drowning daily in plastic pollution:

Thanks to Vietnamese rich culture, there is variety of local materials. To create a culturally fusion space, these materials; cast iron, fire bricks, cement tile and brass inlayed concrete were chosen.

1. Cast Iron wall with plants pattern: Vietnamese cast iron is generally used for a part of fence of houses. This familiar local material is recognized like a symbol of garden. To use this unique feature, a curtain-like faade made by the cast iron was installed beside the original glass wall. The brick wall is connected inside and outside of garden to make a unite space for gathering. Handmade bricks are used for garden pavement. With arrangement of herringbone pattern, the brick shows nice texture on ground for activities.

3. Cement tile: Cement tile is also very traditional and popular material of Vietnam. By choosing plants pattern of the design, even small compartment, guests can connect with garden atmosphere beside view to street trees.

Every arrangement of material is to prepare for maximizing the garden atmosphere and unique dining experience of the guests to gather. With family and friends, the restaurant will provide precious time with garden elements to support the good time.

in the design of its pizza 4P restaurant interior, ODDO architects introduces seven wooden cylinders of varying sizes. these cylinders are anchored and suspended from the reinforced concrete slab above and structurally supported from below by T-columns. this strategy introduces rhythmic shadowing across the space while maximizing occupiable area for a larger number of customers. these cylinders are constructed of wooden blocks similar in size to traditional bricks used throughout northern vietnam. the blocks are assembled together with careful joinery to avoid the use of glue, allowing the wood to expand with changes in humidity.
