Dear all,
Here is your PIR Society update for weeks 5 and 6 of the semester. We thought it would be good to let you know in advance which events the Society will be running during Innovative Learning Week so that you can plan ahead.
Week 5:
Thursday, 14th of February, 7pm - 8.30pm, Seminar Room 3, CMB
We will be running a special PIR Forum on "Scottish Independence - Arguments for and against" and we will be joined by guests from SV Machiavelli, the Association for Political Science Students of the University of Amsterdam, who are visiting Edinburgh with the purpose of learning more about this topic.
Join us at Malone's afterwards for drinks, free food and an opportunity to chat and have some more political discussion with our guests from the Netherlands.
Week 6:
Wednesday, 20th of February, 9am, Seminar Rooms 1 and 2, CMB
This time our "Understanding the Research Process" event hosts two 4th year Undergraduate students who will be offering insights into different methods, approaches and challenges of research in PIR. The two research topics are:
1) "What Future for Development? Re-Interpreting Compromise in the WTO" (presented by Andrew Dougall)
2) "Is Hayek's theory of spontaneous order opposed to Rawls' theory of justice?" (presented by James Frederickson)
Thursday, 21st of February, 5pm, Lecture Theatre 175, Old College
We are happy to announce that we will be hosting Godfrey Bloom, Member of the European Parliament for Yorkshire and the Humber for the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP). His talk titled "The need for libertarianism to return to the Anglosphere" will be focusing on the relationship of Britain and the EU.
Best wishes,
Valerie Greitens
Vice-President
