Dear all,

We hope that those of you who attended the Sir William Patey lecture on Friday enjoyed it, it was certainly a unique chance to hear from an outspoken, experienced diplomat. We have another guest speaker this week, this time on Russian politics:

"How far can Russia's new opposition go?" with Ben Judah
Lecture Theatre 175, Old College
Friday, November 16, 6pm to 7:30pm

This event is co-hosted with the Scotland-Russia Forum, all welcome with no charge and no need for registration.

Ben Judah is the author of "Fragile Empire: How Russia Fell In And Out Of Love With Vladimir Putin", to be published by Yale University Press in May 2013, and an Associate Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations.

For more information on the topic of the talk, please see http://www.scotlandrussiaforum.org/events.html

Politics and IR Cafe - Postgraduate Opportunities
6th Floor, Chrystal Macmillan Building
Wednesday, November 13, 10am to 12pm

November's PIR Cafe will be themed around PG opportunities in Edinburgh. You will have the chance to talk to Dr. Juliet Karboo and Dr. Andrew Thompson and make any queries you may have regarding PG studies. It is a great opportunity to know what is in store, even if you are unsure about what you will be doing next.
(i.e. did you know Edinburgh Alumni get a 10% discount on PG fees?)

As usual, there will be coffee, tea and biscuits provided by the society. Even if you are not particularly inclined to go into PG studies, come and have a chat with us to relax after these hectic essay deadline weeks!
