Of course after talking about people coming more, I find out I have a work obligation Sunday and I won't be able to make it. Apparently I'm required to provide coverage for exhibition games for work now, never heard of that before. Really pissed off. I really apologize I can't stand missing huge games.

I do have the scorebook still. Where does everyone live? Whoever is coming that lives the nearest to Westmont, I can get you the book.

I have been thinking about the email that you sent last week, it will come as a shock to none of you that I have some thoughts.

First of all BJ, Bill and I are the last remaining members of the original Pirates. That is pertinent because we have a voice in the future of this team and, as the people who have kept this going, i would suggest that you listen to that voice. The other option is simply to ignore us and form your own team in the league. You are clearly free to do so but that seems like an unnecessary step. I realize that Bill sent out an email stating that he would not be playing in this league again next season, I am hoping he changes his mind but, even if he doesn't, that does not automatically acquiesce the team to you.

In your email you listed the players whom you would play with and ommited some who, according to your email, were not committed enough. Many of those you left off have played significant roles on this team over the past few years and, more importantly, are people i enjoy playing with. Their reasons for missing games this season are just as legitimate as yours. Yes, you were injured, but does your inability to play due to injury make you more committed than someone who can't make it because they are with their children or at work? I have known many of theses guys for years and have never once questioned their commitment...you have known them for a few months and feel it is appropriate to judge them? I think the reality of it is, we had some injuries and needed a couple of extra guys on the roster. As that is the case, wouldn't it make more sense to keep the current team and add a player or two? There remains a group of people who played with us in prior years who, for a variety of reason, we're unable to play this season who may come back and play next season (Tim, Dom, Q, Katz etc. I'm talking to all of you.) Were this too happen we would field a team that had a legitimate chance to win the league.

We started the Pirates because we were frustrated with the team that we all found ourselves on. We started a team with the understanding that we would play with people we liked...we actually tossed two guys off this team because they didn't have fun and we didn't want to play with them. We started this team with the understanding that we were paying for the priveledge of playing ball but also that everyone was an adult and would prioritize according to their own lives. The only way this works is if we allow people to enjoy playing and enjoy being here but most importantly enjoy playing together.

I am sure that you were not trying to offend anyone and that you were actually trying to be proactive. Unfortunately the net result was people were offended and some may not want to come back even if invited...that sucks, I like playing with those guys.

Anyway, my two cents. 

One more note, year end party some time in October? Pick a Saturday night and let's all grab some beers.

I was not trying to offend anyone.  In Bill's email, I though he said he was done and passing it on to the new guys. I just didn't like how we would have to forfeit because last minute we would not have enough people. I understand everyone on the team has their own priorities and those are legitimate. Luke lives 45 mins away and I don't know about him but I would be pretty pissed if I drove 45 mins and ended up finding out game was cancelled at the park due to not enough guys. This was the only team I have been on where every game it seemed like Bill was pulling teeth just to get guys to come to the game.  At the beginning of the year Luke and I were gonna form our own team and talked to Hilly but he said there were a group of you guys originally from the past years (who I had a ton of fun playing with) that we could join with. I thought Bill was sending that email because he was giving it up and was asking if us new guys wanted to take it over. If I were to take it over I would want people who I know will show up or tell me ahead of time so we can find people and not forfeit. Sorry if I offended anyone but the communication was not the greatest on this team.
