Hey everybody,

Here are the details on our plans tomorrow--

Bikes in the AM!

Summer Workshop Series meeting will be at 3pm still but in Northampton at Izzy's place- 79 Hawley St Apt 2
We'll eat dinner there at 5:30pm

After dinner everyone is encouraged to go to a cool lecture at Smith College as part of the Center for Popular Economics summer institute--

7-9 PM | The Factory in the Living Room: How Television and Advertising Exploits Its Audience | Seeleye 201

Sut Jhally, Professor of Communications, UMass
Sut Jhally argues that they way to understand commercial media such as television is to switch from the idea that they are putting things into people (messages and meaning) and instead view them as taking/extracting something from the audience (economic value). Television watching in the home is organized according to the logic of the industrial factory. But in the living-room factory, there are no child labor laws.

Hey all!
Just a word about bikes tomorrow: we'll have our bike meeting at 11:30 but afterwards, and before the SWS bike class, we'll be working on some of our bike share bikes. Fun stuff!
See you tomorrow,
Jesse
