Hey team,
I just off the phone with Danny, who runs Laughing Dog Farm in Gill. He's a friend of Eric from Harvest Moon. It's a permaculture farm and you can check out their website here:
http://laughingdogfarm.com/. He's been at it for a number of years and it's a great example of really productive permaculture.
Danny agreed to have us come up on Friday around 11:30 to see the place and do some work. He said we could learn how to make garlic wands if it's too hot in the fields, but he has plenty of projects.
And if you're saying, "But Martha, I'm tired of doing free labor for random farmers! And it's hot!", get this: it's on the site of the Renaissance Commune! It was the site of their "2001 Center", which was the final stage of the commune in the late 1970s and the 80s. You can read about it here if you scroll down:

We will meet at the apartment beforehand, around 11, to bike/drive up. If you are going there separately here are the directions: go north on Main Rd in Gill, 4 miles from the light at the turn into Turners Falls, and turn right on a dirt road marked "Renaissance Comm." 100 yards up the road forks and you go to the left then you go up a hill and past a house. Then the road turns to the left and it's the 2nd house on the dead end (marked Laughing Dog Farm).
Let me know if you're planning on coming!
Martha
