Ever since I started this group, I've been consumed about how to get
the group off cyberspace and into the playing field. Here are my ideas
as to how we might be able to reach our goal - to establish the sport
of gridiron football in the Philippines.

Ito lang ang mga ideya ko, in no particular order. I'm just
formalizing it here to get everyone's feedback and additional inputs.
Suggest lang kayo mga kasama.

1. EXPAND GROUP MEMBERSHIP
And in a team sport like football, trust is very important.

Out of 10 invitations per week, we'll probably get 1 to 3 persons who
will actually join. Before we know it malaki na ang grupo natin and
we'll be ready to form our teams and launch preparatory events. But
this will be our first step. Before we can do the other items in this
list, we must first show good numbers, otherwise hindi tayo papansinin
ng mga hahanapan natin ng suporta. Palakahin natin ang ating samahan.

2. NETWORK WITH KEY PROVIDERS
We need venues, equipment suppliers, sponsors and other service
providers.
sa atin, let us start exploring tie-ups with them. Next week, I'll be
talking to some sports suppliers (i.e. Wilson) to see if we can get
some good deals.

3. SET ALLIANCES WITH EXISTING FOOTBALL GROUPS
There are already existing flag football and rugby football clubs in
the Philippines. These are the closest cousins of gridiron football.
But if we can also work together with the FIFA groups (soccer) in the
country, why not? By setting our animosities and differences aside the
more we can help all kinds of sports to develop in the country.

makakapagtulungan.

4. SEEK SUPPORT FROM EXTERNAL SOURCES
Several groups come to mind, the NFL, the IFAF, the National Gridiron
League of Australia. We need their guidance and support in terms of
training and gaining recognition for our startup league.

5. ORGANIZATION, POOLS AND TRAINING CAMPS
We will form a players pool and officials pool. We will then host
training camps, football courses and seminars for the further
education of players, officials, team managers, coaches, support
staff, media, etc.
media groups, etc.)

6. SETUP THE FIRST TEAMS
When we can form 2 teams already, we can begin doing exhibition games
to attract support and grow our numbers. Puede rin tayong magkaroon ng
challenge series kasama ng PFFL at PRFU. Or we can start hosting
invitationals featuring teams from possible sponsors. When we
establish 6-8 teams regionally, we will be ready to launch the league.

7. SPONSORS CONVENTION
We will invite potential sponsors, media partners and investors to a
convention to solidify the support we will need for the league.

8. LEAGUE LAUNCH
When we have all these elements together we can then formally launch
the league.

I cannot set a realistic timeframe for all these at this point but my
hope is with the support of the entire group, we can have a league
going within the span of a year.

We just need the
commitment and participation of everyone to contribute to the
objectives of Pinoy Gridiron.

Rune,

That's part of it. If we are going to play tackle football the way it's played. I remember about 25 years it costs about 1000 dollars per player for what they wear from head to foot. Cleats, pads , jersey , helmet. We obviously can not source this in our local chains to my knowledge.

Then there's medical considerations. What the sports doctors call weekend superstars. People who just turn on a switch on the weekend and demand things from their bodies they don't pay the price for the rest of the week.

A regular game you see on TV has a head referee, line judge back judge side judge etc. Probably multiples.

Not to mention one guy holding the down and line of scrimmage indicator and two guys holding the ten yard chains.

Lot to do guys

Thanks Akong for the response.

Sa aspect ng playing field, we will have to make do with what we can
get access to. For example, right now, the Philippine Flag Football
League is playing on the old UP track and field oval which is
certainly a far cry from the 100x53 yards requirement in the pro
leagues. But the PFFL are playing and they have been playing for the
past 9 years. I believe we just have to show the viability of this
sport in the long term, to get developers to consider putting up multi-
purpose stadium complexes. It certainly isn't impossible. A few
decades ago, you can hardly see a full 18-hole golf course in the
country. Now they're just about everywhere. And how about a world
class ice-skating rink in a tropical country - 10 years ago, it would
be totally inconceivable. Now there's 3 of them up and running in the
malls. We too can get there.

In terms of equipment, at first we may have to import the stuff. But
one of the things I envision with this sport is that many of these
gear, can be manufactured in the country. I won't be surprised if some
of the enterprising souls from among us would later on supply the
league with Philippine made football gear and maybe even export them
to other countries, maybe even the NFL. The possibilities are endless.

As for officials, we are going to put up offiicals/coaches training
camps, most likely by the first half of 2009. I'm already in
communication with football authorities in the USA and in Australia
and I hope that we can tap their expertise for the training program.
I'll be posting a call for officials pool soon. So for those who want
to become the future referees, umpires, linesmen, judges, etc for the
Philippine Gridiron League, do sign up and we will keep you posted.

If you have other suggestions or comments, just keep them coming. This
league will require the cooperation of everyone to become a reality.

Hi Akong. Definitely we will get there too.

The long term vision is to have three to four conferences North,
Central, South and maybe a Metro or National Conference.

As for the participation of colleges, we hope to be instrumental in
helping colleges and universities build their gridiron football
programs in the future. We are already contacting major institutions
for this and hopefully by 2009 or 2010 may mga PE courses at varsity
teams na for football.

Keep in touch akong.
trainors at officials diyan we can make Davao a priority area for team
development also.
