For those who like the idea of combining a cycling holiday with a pleasure cruise (and maybe can't afford the Santana version in a luxury hotel boat :o) I've just produced a blog post about pleasure boats on the Firth of Clyde (the classic paddle steamer Waverley) and the Moselle (alongside the Moselle Cycle Route).

It includes schedules of boat services for both area and some basic information about mileages and services on the Moselle route with additional information links for both.

For Tandemists big boats are great as they are much easier to deal with than trains and we had a great trip into Argyllshire on the Waverley with our Pino a while back. As well as being fun they are a good way to extend your reach on a bike tour. We are thinking about the Moselle because we like to take our little caravan so connecting boats allow you a longer out and back trip from your temporary base without cycling in both directions.

best wishes from Sunny Sheffield
Chris

Like the idea of the Moselle route and taking the little van as accommodation for an extended journey there and back. Think I would have to do most of the journey out solo then get Sue to fly out and join me, So many ideas of wonderful trips and so little time, ha

Yes Chris, it's a Trigano Rubis 420 so it's quite roomy inside.

I always wanted an Eriba, we bought a new Avondale in 2004 at Sue's preference and sold it in 2010 for about 6 thousand less than we paid for it. If we had bought the Troll I fancied at that time the depreciation would have been about zero.

Since then I have been looking for a pop top as generally they are better built and hold their money. Couldn't persuade Sue to go with the standard Eriba shape and style so looked at the Eriba Feeling at Jandi in Scotland.  Was very disappointed when shown a new van with water pouring in through the roof light seal. Obviously they are completely different construction to the steel framed Eribas.  Anyway I also found out it was larger in folded height than 2 meters and wouldn't go toll free on the Peage so back to hunting.

Luckily I found this Trigano last year at a cracking price and although we've had some teething troubles it is proving to be good to tow and live in, and Sue likes it.  Away again tomorrow with my oldest son for a couple of days in Scarborough, hopefully it'll get plenty of use this year.

kind regards
John
