Hi pinonauts,
Just had a hiccup today trying to retrofit my 2008 Pino Mk2 with some 9
speed Shimano Dura-Ace shifters. The handlebars are just a tiny bit too
narrow for the shifters to fit. I guess this is a mountain bike / road
bike handlebar problem?
Does anyone have factory-installed bar end shifters on their Pino? Do
you have any clue how they got them to fit? Smaller shifter expansion
wedges? Bigger handlebars? Slightly sanded/drilled out handlebars?
(ugly hack, wouldn't put it past Hase)
Also, any inspiration for running the shifter cable past/under/through a
set of Ergon grips?
Happy spring riding!

Take the three expander chocks out and run a rattail ( round) file on the inside radius
Or use two chocks only.
A little filing on the actual shifter body might help
We use smooth(clickless, non indexed)
1970's shifters on our tandems.

John at JD tandems fitted bar-end shifters to ours. Suggest you drop him a line to see what prep he did.

Having seen how they "adapt" a Rohloff Shifter to fit the Pino, I'd agree

We fitted a "proper" Rohloff shifter to the bar ends and just let the cables float free in an elegant curve. It's not tidy, which is one of the reasons why Hase don't put the shifter there I believe but it never gives us any problems. Ergons are great on the Pino

Our Pino has Dura-Ace bar-end shifters, but they were fitted by a bike shop before we got the bike, so I don't know if they're modified in any way.
I havne't yet run a bar-end shifter cable through Ergons, but I'm going to. John at JD tandems sent me some photos of their Pino set up that way, and he reports that the Ergons solved the numb and tingly hands problem for him, I'm hoping it will for me. I'll try to remember to post more when I've tried it.
