Thanks for your inquiry
As one of the earliest Pino dealers on the planet, we’ve not had any issues
We’re on our 6th one personally having sold our own to people in a hurry.
I’m hereby copying this request and reply to the international Pino forum to see if anyone will chime back.
You’re correct in that any qualified weld shop can repair these

Hi Larry,   I was wondering if there is a way to identify using the serial number of a Hase Pino to tell if there is a possible quality problem with the frame.    I  have read where some frames were cracking  and have not heard if there is a fix.  I would assume a quality welding shop could fix anything.

Thanks for your time\\

Since we don't know the total numbers of Pinos sold by Hase and how many cracked frames they've heard about.  to factually establish the frequency of the problem.  There are reports and pictures of failed welds at the disassembly juncture.  Hase has produced a bracing kit that was supposedly provided for certain serial number ranges.    One member of this group,  Richard Favringer experienced a crack on his 2014 frame, which was replaced under warranty.  Our frame is from late 2013 and I worry,  perhaps needlessly, about our frame cracking but would buy another Pino even if did require replacement out of warranty.

Our's is a 2011 frame from new and we've done loads of day rides plus there or four tours with the bike fully loaded with front and rear panniers and rack bags etc – probably around 60-70lbs. Neither of us is particularly large – our combined weight is about 285lbs, so we are looking at an all-up-weight of some 355lbs. I fitted the reinforcement bracket around the join (we rarely split ours) when we received it from JD Tandems and there was no evidence of any failure at that time. We've also had the frame stripped and resprayed and that probably would have bought any failure to light.

I only know of about four or five frame failures from accounts online, so I think they are extremely rare and knowing Hase's excellent after sales care, would think they would replace, even on an old bike. The serial number is under the seat on ours, on the right side flat part of the support.

Ours broke, it was one of the first Al frames I think, from 2009. The frame was replaced and it seems to be reinforced in the right places.

If you have any concerns the best thing is to ask Hase when they started reinforcing the area around the frame splitting joint to avoid cracking, and whether your bike has that reinforcement, but you can check for yourself, the reinforced frames have 'D' shaped plates (gussets) wrapped round and welded to the down tube on either side of the frame splitting joint

Best wishes from sunny Sheffield

thanks for the feedback
we will be ever vigilant on those descents in New Zealand in December.

Are there any reports of failures with the titanium models?

Thanks ahead

Our frame was the glossy red 2014... It was a RCC Demo, but assume was treated well... We literally put 5000 standard riding miles on it (about 3.5 years)... Not over loaded, no touring... One major sliding crash... and a few minor "tip-overs"... and the frame cracked at the joint. Discovered after an average ride... - Hase USA replaced the frame for us... for which I am very grateful... Since I have a feeling it may not have been a standard choice.

The new frame is the satan red and black... Currently, less then 1000 miles... 2017+
