We have Varian millennium 120-leaf MLC banks fitted in our linacs and I'm in the process of checking the beam model MLC limitations. The sample Varian 2100 machine that comes with Pinnacle also has a 120 leaf MLC with the following leaf constraints:

Maximum tip difference from jaw: 14cm

Dynamic Leaf gap: 0.05cm

Static leaf gap: 0cm

Maximum tip to tip difference: 14.5cm

Max/min leaf/jaw overlap: 0.5cm

Looking at the Varian millennium 120-leaf specifications (taken from the systems and maintenance guide) the following parameters are given:

Maximum leaf extension beyond most retracted leaf: 15cm

Leaf effective shielding length: 15cm

I would like to know why these parameters aren't used for the tip to tip difference, are the default Pinnacle constraints overly cautious? Or I am I missing something?

If anyone has constraints for a Varian millennium 120-leaf bank they would be willing to share that would be very useful.

Many thanks,

Ben

Hello,

We have set 14.9 cm due to possible rounding issues on jaw values (Allow Jaw Motion option in IMRT optimization).

The other values seem ok.

I wonder if the 2100 machine model is using the old Mark MLC and not the millennium.  If memory serves me correct the Mark MLC had a tip difference of 14cm.

We use 15cm in our clinic, static gap = 0cm and dynamic = .05cm.

I use 14 cm.  I tried 15 cm for the millennium and got some invalid plans.  Maybe it was rounding and should have gone with 14.9 cm.  I am using the same values that you are.
