THE PRODUCTION OF POLITICS
There are ideologies, and there are enterprises, and there are
professions. Each of these categories implies a license to
purposefully alter the patterns and terms of communication, through
control or redesign of communications media. How is this legitimate?
When is it okay?

THE ART OF WORK IN THE AGE OF POST-PRODUCTION
In a post-industrial economy, the emphasis of art and design were
bound to shift towards aspects of post-production, and in particular
towards practices whose fundamental logic is the promiscuous
recombination of ideas, tools, and methods already fully formed. How
far can the spare parts be adapted away from their original context
and purpose?

Friday
BLOGGING: AROUND THE TABLE
The “blogosphere” can be a delicate subject: the salvation of
participatory democracy, or a black hole of narcissism, where every
dog barks all night into nothingness? At a technical level, the blog
represents a perfect form of participatory media: anybody with
internet access can probably figure out the technical requirements,
and the question of distribution is taken care of by some odd
variation on Adam Smith’s “invisible hand”... type it, and they will
find it if it matters to them. Will they? Does it?

THE POLITICS OF PRODUCTION
The orientation of art to the process of its own making is well-
established as a characteristic of modernism. There is, however, a
much longer tradition of efforts to create enclaves or communities
whose governance and way of life is consistent with values or
articles of faith: from the Pythagoreans to Sankai Juku. With the
availability of low-cost electronic media, it is now in principle
practical for small groups to construct collective practices
efficiently and effectively, which ought to make it practical to
develop practices consistent with a whole new set of values, or
simple desires, and to form new political structures whose primary
product is actually their social process.
