A new record of 1112 miles from CA/NV border to Dodge City KS using wave lift was set by 2 pilots.  Got up to 28000' at temps of -40F.  Final glide from 28000' was 240 miles.

I tried to send more info to PMP but the limit is 8mb.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Hi Charly,  I read about this record flight as well. Amazing distance covered! it's an incredible distance to fly that far in an aircraft with no method of propulsion except the movement of the atmosphere on our planet, along with the skill to accomplish it!

Heck, Janet and I drifted with the wind a lot further than that!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

Besides that, I was responding to what Steve expressed:

" it's an incredible distance to fly that far in an aircraft with no method of propulsion except the movement of the atmosphere on our planet, along with the skill to accomplish it!"

Wow!  The aircraft used in the recent sailplane record was a self-launched Arcus J two-seater.  It has a small jet engine to self-launch.  Cool technology at a cool new price of $330,000.

FYI, the aircraft Janet and I used had no wings, no jet engine and no steering mechanism.  It cost us $10,000 used.
