Not yet signed up for the service, just evaluating it.

The FAQ says

You can also configure Pinboard to automatically mirror public bookmarks from your accounts on Delicious, Instapaper, Read It Later, and Google Reader.

Pinboard will check the services every hour or so and automatically add new bookmarks to your collection.

1. For Read It Later, does it pick up only Unread items added since the last time it checked or *all* items added since the last time it checked? What kind of user config options are there for this?
2. For Google Reader, what items does it add? Starred? With specific tags? Can we fine-tune this? Can Pinboard be added to the Send To menu in Reader?

It will add whatever new items it finds in the RIL RSS feed. You can
choose to have stuff added as 'read' or 'unread'.

The Google Reader blurb is out of date. Pinboard no longer imports
from Google Reader since Google turned off the sharing options. You
can still add Pinboard to the 'Send To' menu in Reader.

"New" as defined by what? Since the last time it checked?

As per the RIL API docs, http://readitlaterlist.com/api/docs/#get

So do you use state=unread or just the "since" parameter? How about the "tags" parameter? Could you allow us to control these parameters as needed?

Regarding RIL: Pinboard's own import options are limited to the feeds
RIL provides. If you just enable the option in Pinboard your new RIL
items are synced to Pinboard. It is also possible to make Pinboard
import RIL's read item - this can only be activated by Maciej (which
he kindly did for me once). The problem with all that is the fact,
that RIL does not publish tags in its feed and therefore Pinboard
cannot import them.

However, there is the great web service "ifttt": It supports both RIL
and Pinboard and you can create very nice mirroring workflows,
including tags sync. I, for example, have ifttt set up to add every
read item in my RIL account as private bookmark to Pinboard, including
all tags I assigned in RIL.
