I'm seeing some inconsistency on when the timestamp is being updated when making changes to a users bookmarks.

Adding via the web interface always updates it, but either adding/removing tags or deleting them does not.

This is a problem for my users, since I'd like to to be able to trust this method and avoid having to pull down unnecessary updates just incase.

Strictly speaking, it's behaving as documented: "Returns the most recent time a bookmark was added, updated or deleted." at https://pinboard.in/api/

But I agree, it would be nice if it either updated anytime a tag changed, or there were another way to find out the last time a bookmark or tag changed.

This is one of the places where I'm forced to mimic the Delicious
behavior (until I can get v2 of the API out). However, I believe their
API updates the timestamp when a tag is edited. I'll go check the
behavior and make appropriate fixes.

I think the current behavior is buggy.   The last-updated time should reflect the time any change was made to a user's bookmarks, whether it's an edit, addition, deletion or change in privacy/unread status.  I'll put out a patch tomorrow to fix this and post an announcement on the site blog.

I'm running into a similar issue as Collin noted. Adding or deleting bookmarks updates the date on posts/update. However, if I edit the title, description, or tags, posts/update doesn't seem to reflect that a change occurred. (For reference, I tried updating via the web interface and the api).

I gave delicious a try and it does appear to update the date on calls to posts/update when any change to a bookmark (title, description, tags) occurs.

This is my first foray into working with the api, so it's entirely possible that I'm doing something wrong. I'd love to get this working though so that I can avoid hitting the api any more than I need to.

posts/update should now be returning correct data (the timestamp of the most recent add/delete/update operation on a user's bookmarks). If you still see discrepancies, please let me know.

Thank you, Maciej! I just tried it out and it's working great.
