Ina poisoned world where sunshine kills, a hit squad from the Zyklor Corporation interrupts the testing of a matter replikator capable of duplicating living tissue for the purpose of extending human life. When the smoke clears, scientist Ludovic finds himself framed for murder and on the run from an exact duplicate... of himself. Joining forces with ex-lover Kat Moscow and cynical Detective Valiant, Ludovic follows the bloody path of destruction wrought by a monster with his face.
Joe Bob Briggs, and we have the third and final in a series of low-budget sci-fi rip-off classics tonight: Replikator, where a scientist and his ex-girlfriend fight off both his evil clone and a guy who wants to create a superhuman race and take over the world.
a guy gets cloned and the clone becomes the joker. dumb as hell pseudo-profound cyberthriller but worth watching for the mid-90s hacker cyberpunk aesthetic and for character saying shit like ZYKLOR CORPORATION with a straight face.
I was confused on the level of Abraxas here. It was just one endless dialog sequence about seemingly nothing then occasionally something pretty cool happens. If you have it on in the background you might not hate it?
If MTV had taken over the world in 1991, maybe this future would have been accurate. The writers of this film were really optimistic in the potential advancement of technology in 20 years and there are some really bizarre edits in scenes and cuts between scenes. The only saving grace for me was that replicated Ludo reminded me of the 4th Doug copy from the movie Multiplicity, which made me chuckle a couple times. Beware of the impaling coffee maker!
This movie is trying pretty hard (but with limited skill and budget) to be a hip, internet-age SF movie. It falls pretty short of the mark, but like most of these dated films that tried to cash in on that technology, it contains some golden bits of dialogue. Maybe the standout for this one was the ill-conceived, and hilariously delivered "we were just a couple of cyber-space cowboys." I really ought to sample that and file it away for later use.
