Thereare many different types of email accounts you can add to Outlook, including an Outlook.com or Hotmail.com account, the work or school account you use with Microsoft 365, Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, and Exchange accounts.

App passwords are randomly generated one-time use passwords that provide temporary access to your online accounts. Temporary passwords act as a security layer, preventing the need to share your main account credentials with potentially less secure or unknown applications.

You'll need to go to your email provider to get the app password. Your email provider will provide instructions on how to generate an app password for your email account so you can use it in email applications such as Outlook.

To add your email account to Outlook, depending on your provider you might need an app password, also known as an application password. This is a different password than your regular email account password. One way you'll know you need an app password is if you see the following message: 2-factor authentication is set up for your account. Please sign in using your application password.

With the newer versions of Outlook, you can add your Gmail account as an IMAP account without setting up two-factor authentication, and you don't need an app password. However, for increased account security we recommend enabling two-factor authentication for your Gmail account. This adds an extra layer of security after you enter your password by requesting you to enter a code from your phone to authenticate.

If you're using Outlook 2016 or an earlier version, or if you want to add your Gmail account as a POP account, you'll need to enable two-factor authentication and create an app password. You'll use the app password in place of your regular password to add your account to Outlook.

Enter the password for your Google account and then select Sign in. At the bottom of the next screen, select Mail and Windows Computer from the drop-down lists, and then select Generate.

When you add your Yahoo account to Outlook Desktop you may see the Yahoo OAuth prompt. If you see this prompt, simply enter the password that you normally use to log into webmail. You can learn more here. If you do not see this prompt, you need to create an App Password as explained below.

If you need to enter specific values for incoming and outgoing server names, port numbers, or SSL settings, you can use Outlook's advanced setup option. You can use these instructions to add a POP or IMAP account to Outlook.

The Account settings screen should be pre-populated with most of the account settings you need. However, if you need to look up your settings, see the POP and IMAP account settings topic. Enter your incoming and outgoing server settings and then select Next.

If the issue persists, consider re-importing suggested contacts or deleting the AutoComplete cache.

Why are all my Outlook autocomplete email addresses suddenly missing? - Super User

Outlook auto complete won't display 1 specific email/contact address - Microsoft Community

@LeonPavesic this happens at least once per month, in several computer of our company, and the recomended solution is always what you said or reboot (holy MS cure). But being like that and affecting several users as you can read means its really a bug that wasnt been adressed. Latelly all software from MS seems to be developed just half way, without focus on the basic fuctions to work properly, and even if I may say, without sense or direction resulting in a decline in productivity and functionality. I would really re.think everything being done, and till then solve those basic problems. Want one more example of so basic fails, Teams calender doenst have a monthly view. Just sad!

Hi,

I am currently working and it is really important to share and access files through dropbox. For some unknown reason I am not receiving my verification email. It is really important for me to get this sorted and I have tried changing my browser but no success. I cannot change me email as it is my work email and I have clients assigned to it. Hopefully this can be manually rectified and I can start using the service!

Hi,

Could you please check your spam folder to ensure that no-r...@dropbox.com is not blocked? Could you please also add no-r...@dropbox.com to your address book and request another email verification email?

Thanks!

What do you mean write in here? That is what this is? I am really disappointed with the lack of contact details available to solve these issues. Is there a direct contact who will be able to aid with finding a solution.

Gareth.

Hi Gareth,

Thanks for following up and sorry to hear that this isn't fixed. Our support team would be happy to help you with this. In order to get in contact with them, please go to and select the options that best fits your question to find a solution to your question or to submit a ticket to our support team.

Also, if you are not receiving the password reset email, you can temporarily change the email associated with your Dropbox account to another email to see if you receive the verification mail.

Thanks!

Still no answers for my issue. It is now my third week and I am really disappointed that Dropbox cannot even provide me a solution to the issue of not receiving my verification email. - I have tried changing my email. - I have added the email as a contact. - And I have created an issue here to discuss it, I do not want to create another forum/ ticket/ topic to find a solution. I would like if you could solve my issue directly as it is severely effecting my work. I hope I can be given a solution asap. Gareth

I have been able to send from my Outlook account to other e mail users that have a Yahoo account. about 4 weeks ago it has changed and I get error messages when I send to a person with a Yahoo mail account but they can send to me. I get an email back to me that says Delivery failed to the recipient. Would anyone know why this would happen all of a sudden. Thanks David675

What's strange is that the bounce the client sent me today has a time stamp 5 hours in the future. Client recieved the bounce at about 11am Eastern Time time in the message is about 4PM same date. Either something is very wrong or message sent from another time zone outside the US?

I am also looking for a way to synchronise the task list from Outlook with Monday. Many of my tasks also start with an email. I turn this email into a task so that I can see it in the task list in Outlook. However, my colleagues at work and my superiors do not see this. Therefore, I have to add many tasks to Monday. When these are completed in Outlook, the tasks must also be manually marked as completed and dated in Monday.

yes - magically fixed for me today too!! Was not working earlier today, but feature seems to be back for shared mailboxes ... Thanks Menno - would not have checked again without you mentioning, as I had been checking on and off all day without the fix having happened...

Same thing happening. Seems to only affect the Outlook app as categories are still accessible if I access the shared mailbox via browser.**edit: I've raised a ticket with Microsoft Support for this. This appears to fall under an issue that their engineers are investigating right now. Highly recommend affected users raise a support ticket. To do this:

My pleasure, Jeffrey. I've logged in this morning and categories are back! It may be a rolling fix, but definitely worth making sure you have the latest version of the Outlook App installed, do a restart and have a look to see if your categories are back :)

Same for me with version 16.85, my users can no longer use colors to organize emails in shared mailboxes. I worked around this by configuring the shared mailboxes with a user password instead of going through delegation mode..."

Same here ... so frustrating! I simply cannot do my job effectively without being about to create and use categories in Outlook. I use a shared mailbox where other users flag emails for various people and different escalation levels. Hopefully this is being prioritised by Microsoft engineers, or I have to find another email program...

The version v16.85 and 16.86 beta has a glitch with the Outlook app while the version 16.84.2 works perfectly for categories, even with the shared mailboxes and delegation accounts. Roll back to the previous version until Microsoft fix it with a new update

I have companies already established in HubSpot. When my sales team utilizies Outlook for email, what is the process for creating that new contact record in HubSpot for a new contact on an existing company? Unfortunately, many of my customers have the same .com email ending so a straight import of all the Outlook records doesn't seem feasible.

Aah, I understand better now. I think some manual work might be involved to start with. Hubspot will not change associations between companies and contacts if those are already set. This means that for the existing ones, you might need to have them in an Excel spreadsheet, set them up the way you need them with the different instances of the company and then the comms will be recorded accordingly. It's not a slick or long-term solution, yet it can still help to start with.
