Anyone out there found a spring replacement to replace the one fitted in the bowels of the fuselage as an undercarriage lightening spring.
Mine seems tired as its a right old heave-ho to operate the undercarriage. This figures as most old springs become less effective with age.
Most PIKs are 50  years old and so is their undercarriage spring, so this item could get to be popular if resourced and a bulk group order generated.
Thoughts from all welcome.

I thought the same thing a few years ago, my Pik is a B from 1974.
I diss-assembled the handle etc in the cockpit during the annual inspection, cleaned and lubricated it with dry lube and it now works much better.
You may need a new spring, but maybe try this in the meantime if you haven't already.
Cheers.

Hi,

This 20B can only be from 1975. Only 16 first ones were built in 1974.

Varley,

The spring on my 20E broke (at one of the ends) 25 years ago. I posted it to a London-based spring manufacturer and they were able to make a replacement in a matter of days, at a very reasonable price. Unfortunately, the company ceased trading about five years ago, but I would think that any decent local spring manufacturer would be able to help.

Regards,

David

Hi,

I had to replace mine few years ago on a Pik30 for 60€. I had only a part of the spring but I did measure and define characteristics for a new one.

I found a manufacturer and I built a new one which works perfectly !

You can find informations enclosed. The manufacturer is in France where I live (https://www.vit-ressort.com/)

May be it could help somebody.

Best regards.

Florian
