Ive had my little sticker-business for 2 years now, while studying at the same time. I've been using the Silhouette Cameo with Silhouette Studio. It treated me very good, but while my business grew, the cutter became too small.
You are welcome, and i did post the wrong link and have corrected it. Looks like your other post follows a similar path. can you try "printing" it as a pdf without saving it as a jpeg. Then hopefully it might embed the vectors in a file. I have never used Silhouette studio so i won't be of much help.
Looks like you need to find Silhouette Studio 1.9.0d and purchase a "Designer Edition" upgrade card as this is the only version that allows the .studio file to be exported to an .svg files. They deleted this feature in updates of the program.
I am going through this right now also. Are you using a mac or a PC? Like what Jarrotto said, it is my understanding that if you have the most current upgrade and the "Designer Editions" you can save your files as a .svg file, however this seems to only work on PC's. I use a Mac and do not have this option.
I have looked for a lot of ways around this on the internet, and the only way I have figured out is is to take my file in silhouette and fill it in with a color and print it, then (on a mac) you have an option to select .pdf in the print box and save as .pdf it is a lot of steps. I think these are similar to the steps in the link you posted earlier from the catscrapfever blog.
Thank you for your inquiry. The Silhouette Studio is only currently capable of exporting (or saving) into a STUDIO file format, which is the native proprietary file type for the software. There are currently no other file types that the software can export or save.
If you may wish to provide an image to a non-user of the Silhouette system to view how the program you are working on appears, you may opt to take a screen clipping (as directed at -
a-screenshot.org). This will allow you to create a PNG or JPG file, as may be desired. There is not a method of exporting a vector file for other software programs. We are sorry for any frustration this may cause. We will relay the desire to see such considered for potential future updated versions.
Does anyone know if the above posted info is still accurate? I need to get several hundred traced files from Silhouette Studio into Graphtec Studio. Both are products of Graphtec Corporation and it really makes no sense to have virtually identical software programs that are not able to open each others' files. Ideally, I'd like to be able to use the CE6000 with Silhouette Studio. Anyone know if this is possible?
I just tried something that you may be able to do, I have Flexidesigner which is also it's own format. FS.. I opened Flexidesigner imported a Flexi file, Highlighted the file and copied it. I also had Graphtec Studio open and out of the way a little, I was able to paste that Flexi file into Graphtec Studio.
You could try this also, Although I don't know anything about Silhouette.. You can download Graphtec Studio now from the Graphtec website,,,, Have both programs open .minimize them,.. Copy from Silhouette and see if you can paste into Graphtec Studio. If it works for you, you would not have to change every file at one time, but maybe as you use them..

I noticed that Silhouette also saved as a GSP *gsp.. file, in drop down box. And I tried that also. Because Graphtec Studio shows it imports *gsp files. ...It didn't work for me... I tried changing the file to GST, That didn't work..
I wish we could get this figured out or be able to cut straight from Silhouette Studio. I am having problems with the graph tech studio changing the size of my images before it cuts! EER I have 50 shirts that need to be done by this weekend and i work a full time job and can only work on them at night. I have wasted 3 yards of htv and want to throw my machine out the window, though it's a little too large to fit!!!
MK Creations called Graphtec and asked about the Graphtec Studio Pro. They told her that version isn't out yet. I have an older Adobe CS2 and was trying to learn that with Inkscape also. Also, all the vector files that are posted here eps, svg, etc don't open in Graphtec Studio (at least for me). The Adobe CS2 opens them fine though. When I make a simple word or phrase in GS and cut them out, and then try to save them, the ONLY option for me is Graphtec Studio. Seems like they are a little proprietary
Update: The tutorial below gives you more control over your SVG. If you would simply like to convert a simple .studio3 file to SVG automatically, head to this post. Also, if you are working in Silhouette Studio, saving as an SVG has been added to Business Edition!
An SVG is a file format that stands for scalable vector graphic. Fancy words that just mean that the image can be resized without losing the quality (no grainy or blurry images). You can open SVG in any vector program, Silhouette Studio Designer Edition, or Cricut Design Space.
Another option would be, to cut the forms with silhouette, to take photo of each form and then to draw them in paint, and to vectorize in inskape, to record them in svg and to pass them to studio3, for later to cut them again.
Thankyou so much for this tutorial. So useful. The only problem is that when I copy a card or shape that has dotted fold lines in it, when i eventually open that shape in Brother Canvas, all the fold lines have disappeared. Any ideas please?
Normally, in order convert Silhouette Studio3 to SVG all tutorials recommend you to 1) save a black-and-white image of your silhouette design; 2) then upload in using many online converters, which never give you straight lines and never-ever give you normal thin dotted lines; plus, you have to break your design into small parts to get each part as one single piece; 3) or they recommend using Inkscape tracing. But the result is double lines and (what I hate most) rectangular instead of dotted lines. So once upload to your cutting machine, it will cut holes where a dotted line is supposed to be. And there is no way to change it!
I went ahead and updated my SVG free templates for the Secret Door Card and the Heart Gift Box. And when I did this, I tried to convert my colored Silhouette Template. The online converter did a perfect job even with the red template!
I have only the basic edition of Silhouette Studio where direct import of the SVG format is not possible. To overcome this (without spending money on the designer edition) I usually convert to DXF or in some cases PNG and use the trace function in Silhouette Studio. For overlapping designs or lines the PNG solution is not suitable. But for DXF I have had some accuracy issues and would like to dig deeper into this. You are invited on the journey from Inkscape and SVG to DXF to Silhouette Studio. For those of you not interested in the full journey I will start with the summary of what I recommend.
I recently upgraded to Inkscape v1.0 and found that now there is two DXF file types to choose; R12 or R14. From this link I find that R14 is a newer format than R12, but both are pre 2000 s both are old AutoCAD filetypes. R14 support splines (curves), but R12 only spport straight lines. (If you would like to know detalils about the format you could read the Autodesk DXF reference.)
When I try to save as R12 type I do not get the question about ROBO or LWPOLYLINE. Saving as R14 seems similar to what was the case in earlier versions of Inkscape. There is a Help tab showing that paths (lines and splines) are supported for R14 and also rectangles. This info also says that ROBO is just for ROBO-Master and AutoCAD. I understand that as an warning that Silhouette Studio might not understand the ROBO format correct.
As a circle is easy to see inaccuracies on I will use that as an base for my test drawing. And I would like like some sharp curves and different angles on corners. I constructed this test design both in Inkscape v 1.0 and in Silhouette Studio version 4.4.247ss (both latest versions available pr august 2020 and all on Windows 10). Now I was able to test accuracy and behavior of different settings.
Here comes a gallery of the first impression when opening in Silhouette Studio. Go back to the image above to see what the different variants are. The lower variant (the group) did nothing else than the same ungrouped variant so grouping has no effect on compound paths f.x. Click on the images to zoom in and read the captions.
When opened in Silhouette studio the first thing you will see is that the image is flipped upside down (no problem) and that some relative positions and rotations are not correct. I recognize this as transformation matrixes in the xml is not considered. To fix this you could ungroup everything and then change SVG output preferences to absolute, select all, press arrow up, arrow down to trigger re-writing the paths to absolute. This will not help on objects, just paths.
And then let us zoom in on the best version from all: adding nodes once. I have changed the colors to all black and added the original design on top (I think I have failed slightly with the position of the two circles to the right between Inkscape and Silhouette Studio so please ignore the details in position there.
All node coordinates are saved as floating numbers with 6 decimals. Selecting meter (which is pretty extreme in the world of Silhouette Studio) compared to mm the precision of the coordinates will be reduced by 3 digits (1/1000). So the best precision you will have if you select a small unit.
